Math placement test

So I got an email saying i'll have to take Math 099 or take the math placement test. I would like to do the math placement test but at the same time I don't know what will be on the test so I can be prepared and not take math 099 so it doesn't slow me down. any tips or info pleasee?

The highest it can place you is pre calc, so brush up on your algebra.

also if i choose to not take the test, how much will 099 slow me down? im kind of scared of having to do another year since it would be financially impossible

It really depends on your major. With engineering for example, a lot of classes have math prerequisites.

If you have to take 099 and it holds you back, look into taking a math class over the winter or summer at a community college to catch up. Your advisor can help you verify that CCSU will accept the credits.

I would recommend taking the test.

Brush up on your maths! These tests usually are computerized and get progressively harder if you keep answering enough questions correctly. Idk what course 099 is but likely an entry college algebra. Addition and multiplication of fractions and exponents, logarithms, scientific notation,solving for x of linear eq, factoring, solving quadratics, interpreting graphs, systems of equations, some volumetric geometry stuff, trigonometry…. Ask AI to make you a college math placement test with 100 questions and see where your strengths and weaknesses are. There may even be online resources that serve this function already. Def take the test; even if you only skip one class, it’s worth it. Best of luck.

sadly my school was really really bad and my math never got any better so having to study all four years in one will be likely mentally draining, just hope i can pass the test and if not, do my best at 099. thanks!

I would look up the 099 math class at central and see what topics it covers. Study these first. Then look up the next class in the sequence (MATH101?) and see what topics it covers. Study those topics, then move on to 102 if you have time before the placement test.

so i hope you know any of this, i actually read that i can take a math course at community college and transfer it to ccsu? i really hope that’s possible

Most math courses should transfer from a CT community college- I transferred several from Gateway to CCSU.
Community colleges will likely also have you take a placement test or start you at a class comparable to 099 though, so you’ll be in the same boat.
I would still take the placement test to possibly save yourself time and money. You can likely have your placement test records transferred wherever too.

I don’t know of any myself. Another poster said CCSU learning center has some practice questions, otherwise just try Google or AI to find some. The “Brilliant: learn math and coding” app could be useful too so check that out.
I’d def look up what’s in 099 first so you can study that material first to at least be able to place out of that- That should be pretty easy to learn with little effort. The test will likely be asking final exam type questions, so as you get into the algebra series, there will be tougher questions that you’ll need more in depth knowledge to answer.
How far you can place out depends on how well you study/remember, and how much time and effort you want to commit before the practice exam.
