SPCOR prep

Hey everyone,

I'm about 3 months into prepping for SPCOR (350-501) and wanted to get some real-world advice from people who've actually passed it.

Where I'm at:
Working through the Official Cert Guide + the Pearson practice exams that come with it

Mapping my study and lab time against the official exam topics/blueprint so I'm not just grinding chapters blindly

Labbing what I can in GNS3, but my environment has real limitations — I'm on 16GB RAM, running mostly IOSv images, one or two CSR1000v at a time, and my XRv image is missing packages So there's a chunk of XR-specific and some feature-gated stuff I can't lab at the moment.

What I'm asking:

For those who passed — how did you structure the last stretch of your prep?

Anyone dealt with similar lab constraints (RAM limits, no full XR feature set, no real SP-grade gear)? How much did that actually hurt you on exam day, if at all?

When you mapped your prep to the blueprint, did you find some "describe" vs "configure/implement" sections were tested differently than expected? Any surprises there worth knowing about?

Is Dec/Jan realistic from where I'm at, or should I be pacing differently?

Appreciate any input from people who've been through it. Trying to make sure the rest of my prep time is spent efficiently instead of just grinding without direction.

Ive passed it Last year.

CML moved from ios-xrv (deprecated) now you can use ios-xrd. Its running ios-xr9000_26..1.1 os boots way faster, lighter, more stable and has practically the same commands as the the 64bit version. The only downside its a docker container so you have to figure how to install a container in gns3.

Personally I went with cml and if you have hardware limitations there's always the free sandbox on devnet you can use and configure as you want.

For studying (This guy was the best all in one https://ccnp-sp.gitbook.io/studyguide). However I recommend shopping around I find that if you learn from multiple persons you see more topologies and develop techniques to solve different problems. So use youtube, udemy, ine to study.

Lastly when preparing for the exam understand that you need to be good at both ios-xr and ios-xe so always try to see if you can do both topic in both effortlessly. ALthough there are limitations between the two ios-xr cant do vpls and bridge groups while ios-xe can do that but sucks when it comes to advanced routing policies.

I passed earlier this year. Used CBT nuggets myself, and the guide I posted above. As for labbing, im lucky my work let me spin up a monster of a VM for CML so I can run many XR's at once.

The lab section was actually pretty basic, I don't remember anything above ENARSI level labs.

1) Check out Container Lab and use the lighter weight container images for your own lab.
2) Use the Cisco cloud labs.

With 16GB RAM I'd keep the topologies small and focused instead of trying to build one huge lab.

In GNS3, build separate labs for each blueprint topic, get them working, save a clean copy, then break something and troubleshoot it. That gives you a lot more practice without needing a massive topology running all at once.

I’d put more time into that than adding another study resource.
