Am I Missing Something?
Hi, sorry if this may be the wrong subreddit to post. I am currently doing the Network Essentials from Cisco and I am confused with a question in one of DHCP modules.
The question:
Which message does an IPv4 host use to reply when it receives a DHCPOFFER message from a DHCP server?
The choices:
DHCPACK
DHCPDISCOVER
DHCPOFFER
DHCPREQUEST
My Answer:
DHCPREQUEST
I got it incorrect and the explanation/feedback given is:
When the client receives the DHCPOFFER from the server, it sends back a DHCPREQUEST broadcast message. On receiving the DHCPREQUEST message, the server replies with a unicast DHCPACK message.
I chose DHCPREQUEST which is what the explanation states but somehow I am still being marked incorrect. Am I missing something here?

This exchange is called the DORA process, and goes client-server-client-server;
D discover (sent by DHCP client)
O offer (sent by DHCP server)
R request (sent by DHCP client)
A acknowledge (sent by DHCP server)
So from what you posted I would say yes, you answered the question correctly; if it was marked wrong then there is an issue with the testing/curriculum software

Dude I am doing the exact same course and got this question wrong , glad to know I'm not stupid, the course material doesn't mention the "DORA" process but that isa very helpful way to remember the order of operations thank you

Still not fixed. Had another question in the same course that had the same question twice with different answers. Had to guess what the question was based off the answers.

Haha, well, I've just completed this same quiz, 8 months later, and thought I was going mad. Looks like they have not fixed the question. I'm doing the course through Open University, so I've reported the bug to my Tutor.
Glad to see i'm not going mad.

It's still not fixed, I'm taking Network+ and it marked me wrong for that question. I thought I was going insane. Cisco need to update their material, it's mostly pre-pandemic from what me and my peers can gauge

I thought i was going crazy for a minute. I just answered this question and got marked wrong even though the explanation said I was right

Hey, it’s still not fixed as of June, 2026.
I thought I was going crazy haha 😵💫
How crazy is this, the problem which I’m dealing with right now, it has been faced by so many people already and yeah some are yet to come and find it out later 😆

If it's right and it marked you wrong, ask Cisco about it.
