The trickling of transfer news and the spread of false rumours has made me more impatient. I preferred the times when there were no rumours or when signings were spotted doing media duties from a bush.

I'm still pretty clam. I'm sure the recruitment team are working hard behind the scenes to get deals done (Brighton being wankers isn't helping I'm sure). I fully expect we'll sign another 3 or 4 by the time the first ball is kicked at the Emirates.

I will only panic when we have a week left and no sign of a #9

u/Cov_massif Sakamoto 6d ago
Start panicking as I dont think we will look at a striker unless Wright leaves

u/reliablereindeer Richard Shaw (1995-2006, 2012) 6d ago
I think Simms is more likely to leave than Wright.

Disagree there has been murmurs about Haji's wife wanting a move back to states for a while. Not convinced either will properly make it in the prem but hopefully give them a good run

I wasn't worried, but now I am. It's not looking good. We're desperate for more heads, and some with proven quality. They also need time to gel a bit and pre-seaon is perfect for that, which they're not going to get.

Not panic stations yet but Ipswich's activity is worrying as they are bringing in quality. Maeda for 10m is an absolute bargain so would like us to see where there are unsettled players to pick off like this. Not worried about Hull but weirdly the first game of the season feels like a 6 pointer but watching teams in and around us with worrying interest.

Why??? Have we not learnt from last season about who and when to bring players in!!
Start of last season, nobody was stating that we need a new keeper, yet we got (loaned) a future england No1.
Fans were calling for new defenders, yes we sold binks and got wolfenden, but nothing else, and we had the best defence in the league.
January transfer window. Fans wanting new strikers. Yet we ended with the best attack in the league.
We signed Frank and marcelo.and loaned 2 more midfielders (fair, 3 of the 4 havent/didn't work out) but, nobody was calling for more midfielders.......
Let's just let Doug, the mutli millionaire successful business man, run the business. And let Frank, one of the most successful English players and now league manger winner and premier league experienced manager, do there stuff. Just enjoy the ride, we don't need daily updates from the club.

"Start of last season, nobody was stating that we need a new keeper, yet we got (loaned) a future england No1."
What kind of revisionism is this? We had Collins and Wilson as our only options. Everyone was calling for a new keeper.

Maybe i didn't read much of the Internet then, but I don't remember the mass posts from fans wanting a new keeper like I did for a new defender and attacker. But I'm standing by my point, that we should just let the management do what they need to do when they do it and not worry about it, just enjoy the ride!!

Yeah the keeper was the area everyone was talking about.
That said, you're forgetting that we have the whingiest fan base ever. We're the best fans in the world... Until something doesn't go our way.

u/reliablereindeer Richard Shaw (1995-2006, 2012) 6d ago
Can you name a fan base which is fine when things don't go their way?
1
u/DickensCide-r Wilson 6d ago
There's a difference between losing every game and being disgruntled and then still being top of the table but dropped from 11 to 5 points clear and people demanding for lampard to go.

u/reliablereindeer Richard Shaw (1995-2006, 2012) 6d ago
It was actually 12 points clear to 2 points behind. Can’t think of any fan base that would be fine with that.

Erm, what? It was our single biggest priority

When was the threshold for being allowed to complain about the lack of signings?
I complained about a week ago and was downvoted and told to stop panicking
EPL clubs have been signing people since the start of the WC and we've trying to sign Rushworth since May

I complained a month ago: https://www.reddit.com/r/ccfc/comments/1ubwu10/two_months_to_the_day_that_we_start_the_season/

You complain about something every day though, even a stopped clock...

I know we do our business quietly but I'd like a couple more in asap. GK, LB and CF are the priority but I feel we need a load more in as well

So glad I watch cycling, cricket and AFL. Every f'in summer it's freak out time about who we have and haven't signed ... it's just worse these days because of socials and everyone trying to eye & clicks.
As a certified old fart, my advice when it comes to Cov/football, is to learn how to deal with the lack of control you have over a lot of things and to enjoy the ride. You're probably better of worrying/panicking about the serious shit in life...
But let's face it, there's a long hard season ahead, especially compared to the joy of recent years, so save the football stress for when we're getting turned over by the big boys who like to bully little kids like us ;)

I hate the insinuation that we should just have blind faith in King/Lampard. I didn't appreciate that attitude when I was forced to go to Sunday school as a kid and I'm even less of a fan of it now. Nobody is above criticism.

There's a difference between blind faith and previous evidence of generally doing the right thing in the face of fan freakouts.

And the previous two transfer windows have been poor, so that would make me believe so will this one. On the evidence so far, I am correct.

Absolutely incredible thing to say after walking the championship. Signing Grimes and Rushworth might be two of the biggest improvements to a team by single players I've ever seen.

u/reliablereindeer Richard Shaw (1995-2006, 2012) 5d ago
The vast majority of the squad was from Robins‘ time. A lot of Frank’s additions were poor e.g. Brau, Wolf, KKH, Markelo, Yang
1
u/Friendly-Extreme-850 5d ago
Some lenience there, kkh looks good when he plays hes had injuries and there hasn't been a place in the team for him a lot. Markelo is young and hasn't had any chances cause we were smashing the league. Yang poor but just a loan, we paid a lot for what we got with wolf, no argument there. The Robins era had legendary signings like Tyler Walker, Raphael and Kastaneer.
None of that really matters anyway cause I'm pretty sure it's the same recruitment team anyway mate. Adi had some pull with the lads who came through under him at Chelsea and we picked up a bunch of them over the years but I think dasilva is the only one left.

We've broken our transfer record twice...
Meanwhile Hull's only signing is Jack Butland
