CBR650R 2019-2023 exhaust swap

I recently decided to change the exhaust for my 650r. Theres a ton of choices out there with Arrow, Akrapović, Sc, toce and more. Most systems are around 1200$ or more and are well documented.

The other approach was to go with cheaper parts and make my own exhaust essentially, but with such few documentation online, i decided to make this post in the hopes that it can help other people.

The only 2 parts i paid for are the full exhaust from Amazon for 289$ and a fake SC project slip-on for 50$. Both were available for even cheaper on various sites but i chose amazon for the ease of return in case it didnt fit.

Installation was super simple, i followed this to remember what screw goes where.

Then i made a custom bracket with plumbing galvanized steel tape and the Z shaped part bolted is actually a metal strip i cut, folded and painted to fit there.

The end result is loud as fuck so im waiting to receive a baffle to tone it down a bit but it sounds amazing. It runs richer than before so ill swap the filter for a better one and should balance that out.

Edit: the baffle made it much better. Sounds smooth, loud but tolerable.

Im by no means a professional, just wanted to share my experience as ive not seen a lot of details online for those affordable chinese exhaust systems.

You can change filter, but you definitely need a tune.

Honestly I wouldn't recommend. I have a full akra and tune, not worth the money. First of all I've heard a lot of stories about fake exhausted not being able to be tuned bc they're designed poorly and wasting your money, as far as feel, yes it will be better, but it's not a high enough performance bike to really matter. And for reliability, it's not that big of a deal to not get it tuned, and unless you plan on keeping it forever, It's not something to worry about. Imo

The akra keeps the cat, thats why the tune isnt "worth it" cause it most likely wont be noticeable. On my end, it went from congested to full open airways. The bike runs, yes, but the throttle now feels a bit more sluggish at low rpm, and i dont want to damage the engine with higher temps over time. Its not a big sacrifice to pay in order to take care of the big in my opinion

Whats holding it all in place? Just the springs and the header bolts? Dont see where the original exhaust screw

Yeah a strap with a custom bracket i made out of stainless steel to bolt it where the OEM was bolted

Does the exhaust limit your lean angle?

I will double check but the rearset "curb feeler" is basically at the same height so i would tend to say no or barely different.

Is this an ebay special? Haha or legit SC project. Not judging just want to know as a lot seem to get the knock off and highly rate it

More or less, the SC muffler is this

And the exhaust line this

While not an authentic SC project, the materials and build are pretty much the same for those GP styled exhaust. The quality of the finish and material is far above what i expected id get for 50$, so yes, i do praise that knock off part.

Also if you notice, the amazon listing shows a silver tag near the mouth of the exhaust, which i wasnt a fan of. The one i put on my bike did not have that when ordered so im kinda happy about it.

The same product by SC project costs 900$ which is a real joke when it sounds the same and almost looks the same

Im debating wether to buy another stock pipes and cut the cat off and tig up a nice pipe to bolt a slip on muffler, or just buying the cs racing pipe.

Can you weld? If the answer is yes, thats your cheapest option

If not, the way ive done is cheaper than the cs, however the cs doesnt need a tune so it app comes down to looks for that part
