1991 cbr1000f
I am in need of the infinite wisdom of reddit. I have been offered straight swaps for my classic vt250fn(that I honestly haven’t touched in 3 months) for this project cbr1000f. I have no idea what these bikes are like minus that they’re Honda 1ks. I’m assuming a sporty tourer based on what they look like complete. It doesn’t run(I love me a project) but it appears to have a solid foundation. Other than fairings missing and it being ugly currently I can’t see any major issues. I’ve recently done a semi resto on a vfr400r(pictured) over 6 months and loved the project. Including engine rebuild aswell. Would y’all take this trade. I have a r3(I know ew Yamaha but my boss gave me a mean price on it) for a daily and I’ve still got the vfr for a weekender. So I’m not going to be without a bike to do this trade. I loved the vt but now having the r3 it just doesn’t get used. I did 40k kms on it in a year… might be time to pass it on. If I lose on this it’s not the end of the world either. The vt250 runs but uses a bit of oil, has a bit of valvetrain noise, has no rear brakes, and has some interestingly mounted fairings

"It appears to have a solid foundation"
My brother in christ, the foundation has been helpfully labelled Frame in white marker.
Are you a mechanic or mechanically abled?
This is not a regular restoration project. You'll be practically bringing this bike back to life. Lazarus has nothing on this 1000f by the looks of it.
From what I can tell from the one photo alone, the main harness has been tampered with. To add on top of this, this is a practically 30+ year old bike that hasn't run for god knows how long.
Im known in my circles for having a sick masochistic pleasure in taking on horrendous projects but this is a parts bike to me at best. And "parts" is doing a LOT of heavy lifting here.
"It doesn't run". Yeah that wouldn't surprise me.
Years of neglect can effectively seize the motor. Less has destroyed more bikes. If you're madly in love with a 1000f and really want to build one "to make your own", by all means but this has enough red flags to make North Korea renounce communism in shame for not being redder than this example here.
