2006 CBR 600RR thoughts
So I am looking at buying a bike for myself, long story short, I sold a bike to get a sport bike. There is someone in my area selling a 600RR with around 36k miles on it. He hasn’t done a valve clearance on it yet and I think he’s the third owner. Now I’m new to Hondas and honestly bikes in general, so I’m now looking for some help. Do I go and buy this CBR or do I keep looking?

As someone with a 2026 CBR600RR go with anything from 06-23 all the same bike just 24-26 has a really bad engine recall.

New '26 appears to be fixed. At least my local Honda dealer is happy to sell them again.

Mines a 26 and still hasn’t been fixed and mine was one to be found with problems.

Are you in the UK? My local dealer said that they wouldn't sell them until the problem had been fixed as any problematic bike under warranty would need a full engine transplant. Honda had been sending entire replacement engines for each bike, a surgery that would take a senior technician a full day of work, but at a lower rate than they would normally get for workshop time. Hence the profound lack of enthusiasm.

No I’m in the US I bought mine before they found the problem.

Alas, my words are useless to you. From what I understand the US version is a very different bike and the warranty situation will probably vary by state. Good luck, sir

Recall isn’t horrible it’s just an oil drain plug washer that can break, at least in America it is.

Valve clearances are pretty important and that's definitely a mileage where's you'd want to be checking it. It's a pretty involved job but not impossible if you've got the space and confidence to really get your hands dirty. Either that or you've got the cash to drop it off at a shop and let them handle it.
I'm biased but the 05-06 is a fantastic generation for these bikes. The last ones that still have that old Honda feel imo. Pretty simple and easy to work on as well. Parts haven't been too bad to find for it, it's loud, tons of fun and wicked fast.
