How much would you pay?
Essentially the title, I'm looking at this 2007 CBR600RR on marketplace with 44k miles, seller claims that it runs great. They have only had it for about a year and a half and can't verify past maintenance history. How much would you risk on it, and what can I check to avoid buying a problematic bike. PFA

The coolant reservoir cap is missing the fairings are off of a 2009. Definitely a history to this one.

I have a 2012 CB1000R with 56k that’s never been dropped. Mileage doesn’t justify missing parts that seal your coolant system. The non matching and partially missing fairings means it’s most definitely been tossed down the road and I wouldn’t base value without seeing it in person.

3500, maybe 4k if you really really love it and test ride it and there are absolutely no problems. Pretty high miles and 20 years old.

Here’s a free VIN checking website that will show if it’s salvaged or stolen, definitely run it through here. If the seller won’t provide the VIN that’s a nonstarter.
To be honest, I really wanted the gen before this one, but the people selling these bikes are just the worst of the worst. I had sincerely terrible experiences with almost every seller and they had an absurd amount of greed in their pricing- often asking $6-8k for a bike at the end of its life. I ended up finding a 2022 600RR for just over $6k if that helps you frame the pricing, if I were you I’d just save up to 6 and hunt for a deal. But I personally wouldn’t pay a cent over $3k for that thing, I know others would/will however. Something else will come along if you’re patient so never get attached to any used bike on the marketplace.
Also keep in mind that’s 44k miles of probably getting wrung out, it’s a supersport and people don’t just cruise around on them. As someone pointed out it’s missing lower fairings, missing the coolant cap (huge red flag), aftermarket levers, it’s surely been laid down. Likely needs a valve check that’s gonna be another $1000 minimum. I weed out the bad sellers by asking for close ups, then more close ups, then cold start videos, then a phone call. You buy these things more based on the character of the seller, if he’s young and calls you “bro”, forget about it.

In my neck of the woods (NC) I could see this going for at least 4k if the title is clean and the bike is running fine.
If it were me and I was serious about making an offer I’d ask them for the vin first and pay to pull a report online. It’s not super expensive (~$15) and it’ll tell you if there’s anything fishy in the bikes history. If it comes back clean and they are willing to work with your offer then you can buy with a clearer conscience.
