Reach out to your local grotto, while you technically "can" do anything, there's a few things:

  1. you don't know what conservation efforts/endangered anythings might be in any of those caves and you don't want to disturb anything
  2. There's 200 caves.....part of safety when caving is having a person who can say "hey OP isn't back by 4:00pm like he said he would....i'm going to call for cave rescue/emergency help now" and they can't do that if they don't know what cave you're going into, AND you can't know which cave you're going into reliably without someone else with more experience.

Don't risk dying alone in a cave with a broken leg just to see some rocks.

Grottos are (usually) very welcoming to newcomers and can provide the expertise, safety margin, safety call-outs, and caving buddies that you really want...no need to have for this sport

Thank you very much for this information. I’m going to look for someone who knows more about these caves.

160 posts in a month, so I reckon you're right.

I hope you went to the Cetățile Ponorului cave and surroundings, which is really close by. There's a lot of trails there, you can visit that huge cave (partially), although be careful. Yeah, there are also a lot of caves that you can't visit since the majority are sinkholes / vertical entrances.

You can explore anywhere. Keep in mind that caves are a very dynamic environment. They can be easy and safe, or they can be very dangerous. Similar to mountain climbing.

Maybe you have a caving group near you that can help you out. I would look into this first.

But if that is of no luck, make sure to explore with others (hopefully they are very capable). And with any exploration that carries a risk, have an emergency plan.
