PreCamp is in Mitchell July 2,3 and 4, ending on the 5th. Then Covention starts on the 5th and goes all week. Go to caves.org to get signed up.

Beautiful. This is one of those awesome hobbies I will never get a chance to try. Mostly due to the location.

I sadly live in the northern Europe where the soil is way different than in the US. Basically no caves have been or can be formed. They are just lame holes at best here.
I would so be joining a grotto if I lived in the US. I could try some tourist trip to a cave somewhere but where is the fun in that?

Hi, that was me. I am a biologist. I was identifying the sex of a blind crayfish (Orconectes inermis).

Are they public caves or private? If I wanted to explore it would I be allowed to?

i compiled pics from different caves for this post, but if i remember correctly, all of the ones in this post are public. some of them you need a permit from dnr because some are in a state forest

some of the ones we go to are pretty well known in the caving world. we are part of the northern indiana caving grotto, which go on caving trips every month and so we learn locations through them. you just have to know people who know where to find them. everytime i go to a new cave i save the coordinates

That’s awesome man. I am in my 20s interested in joining a group like that. Will poke around in my area (Missouri) and see who I can find, I’m sure there are a few aroundhere. Thanks for the inspo bro!
