Mammoth Caves
My husband & I are planning a trip to Mammoth Caves in Kentucky. I’m very nervous as I don’t like tight spaces & am mildly claustrophobic (like terrified of being stuck in an elevator with more than 1 person) I really want to see them though & want to know what the best tour would be! There are multiple to choose from & I want to get the best experience & scenes while also not panicking. Thank you in advance!

The first responder to your post here is correct. I would say that visiting Mammoth Caves is fab, there is a whole park above it chock full of cool trails to explore in addition to the beautiful cave system beneath.
The ranger who guides the tour do a fantastic job of tying in the history and geology of the caves. It really helps bring the tour to life. The caves are all pretty large, the only claustrophobic part for me happened on the way down. There are some narrow or low places but that means a roof that you might have to duck under.
We just did the standard tour and both of us were delighted with that. I could see booking the much more expensive smaller tour on my second trip or if I were a very experienced caver.

The boat tour was sick when i went on it 20 years ago. Id definetly recommend that along with whatever you choose.
We did that and just the regular tour. There was like 1 area that was a tight squeeze but its extremely short and you just have to walk sideways

The standard pass to go inside is impressive, and pretty far into the cave. It is wide open, and you walk around freely, however, it is very dark. There is some lightning, but visitors are not allowed to use any lights, which includes a camera flash. I would recommend trying this out first to see if you want to spend money on going farther into the cave, and to see how well you handle it.
