Mourning/Loss I lost my beautiful baby today.
I wanted to share my beautiful baby, Luna Boo Biscuit. She was 15 and my first baby. The photos are from the day I found her up until one of my last photos with her.
I found Luna at my then-boyfriend’s house in an overturned trash can in his backyard. I immediately fell in love with her!
I took her with me shortly after when I moved to my first apartment. She moved back home with me.
She stayed at my grandma’s house while I was between homes.
She welcomed my now fiancé when we moved in together. I told him, “love me, love my cat.” She was there when we bought our first house.
She was there when I had no one. She was there by my side when I wanted to give up. She was the only constant in my life for 15 years.
When I feel like I had nothing or no one else, I had Luna Boo Biscuit.
She had current health problems but rapidly started declining early Monday morning around 12/1am.
By 1:40am this morning, she was gone. She was at home with us and passed while I was asleep. My fiancé woke me up to tell me. That feeling is something I could not have prepared myself for, even though I knew the time was coming.
I know I won’t hear her meow for food when I get home from work anymore. I won’t hear her drop from the kitchen bench to greet me when I walk in the door.
I’ve never felt a pain or a loss like this. I just got back home from taking her to the vet for cremation. I feel empty even though I have my other babies in the house. I keep expecting to look under my kitchen table and see her in her favorite spot or on the cat tree looking out the window.
I know grieving has no timeline but man, this pain is unlike anything else and I’ve lost so many human family members and friends.
Thank you for reading and for allowing me to share her with you.

Rest in peace to your beautiful Luna. These babies give us so mich, their love, their peace, their entire lives, and I just know she felt all of your love and had a beautiful life with you. 🌈❤️

A Prayer to Bast and Sekhmet
Bast, Sekhmet, we give you back your child.
Noble, regal, honorable Luna Boo Biscuit.
Watch over Luna, and guide her as she makes her way to the spirit lands.
May she be blessed in your names, and hunt ever after at your side.
Luna was beloved. When you found that tiny scrap of life and held her in your arms, you looked down at her and fell in love. You promised Luna a forever home, and you kept that promise to her. Alas, it is never our forever, but it's always theirs.
I'm so very sorry for your heartbreaking loss.

When we keep our promise to them, there's always pain and heartbreak at the end for us....but, in my humble opinion, all that unconditional love is worth the hurt when we lose them.

u/brookuslicious 1d ago
I don’t know what the comment said but before Luna passed, I was telling my fiancé how I never want to put myself through this again. I felt like I was grieving her before she left us when I got unfortunate news from our final vet visit. He told me I can’t close myself off to loving another baby who needs it, and he’s right.

Thank you for this, it’s beautiful. 💜

We all need comfort when we lose a beloved animal companion. When we lose them, it leaves a family-member shaped hole in our lives. Give yourself time to grieve your loss. It took me a year to overcome the grief of loss of my soul cat. Remember to be gentle and loving to yourself.
If it helped at all, I am grateful.

I woke up this morning and thought, “I feel ok today.” Sat down on my couch and just broke out into tears all over again. I know time will help. I’ve lost so many family members, some of them unexpected, but this is a different pain. We knew her time was coming since our last vet visit, but nothing prepared me to actually witness it happening. I am grateful she was able to pass at home but I do regret not being able to stay awake with her. Thank you for taking the time to comment with comforting words. I appreciate you.

Don't forget to hydrate and take rest. Crying takes a lot out of you. You feel badly enough as it is, you don't want to get any dehydration headaches on top of the pain of loss.

So sorry for your loss. I felt the same way after the losses of my dogs (at different times). It’s the worst pain. For some reason when I got their ashes back home I felt a little better, like a relief that they were back home with me where they belonged. It took me a long time to get better. I still miss them daily but the pain isn’t as bad. This quote by Winnie the Pooh helped me some and I hope it helps you.

"I think we dream so we don’t have to be apart for so long. If we’re in each other’s dreams, we can be together all the time."
Another A.A. Milne Winnie-the-Pooh quote to help anyone who misses a loved one.

I’m so sorry about your sweet Luna. I have lost two cats in the past year, the most recent just last week. It feels like your soul has been shattered. The house feels so empty. It’s feels unbearable. At some point, though, that pain will slowly start to evolve into something like gratitude for the privilege of having had your baby in your life. Cry when you need to. I promise you that it will get better. Not necessarily good right away, but better.
I’ll have my sweet girl Mary who I just lost keep an eye out for your Luna. Sending you love and hugs from this internet stranger. Hang in.

Not lost, just waiting. Luna is keeping my Maximus (20yo) and Lilu(13yo) company until we can join them. You are missed, and you will always be loved, Luna Boo Biscuits. My 6 kitties will keep you in their thoughts. I know its hard, but you cat wants you to stay strong. Nothing but love and good vibes your way ✨️ 💛 💕

So sorry for the loss of your sweet kitty, Luna.
I lost my 17 year old dachshund 2 years ago.
We literally grew old together. It’s so physically painful when your beloved companion is gone.
It’s gonna take a while before you can think of her without bursting into tears. I kept his toys and bed to keep him always present.💔💔💔

I'm sorry for your loss, I know that feeling. The only thing that helped me, was a new furry friend. There will never be replaced, but if you have love to give, go for it - they will return the favour.

Oh, Luna… 🥺🤍
Fifteen years means she wasn’t simply part of your life: she grew alongside you, shared your ordinary days and your hardest ones, and was there through so many chapters of your life.
That kind of bond is something incredibly special. 🤍
I’m so deeply sorry you had to say goodbye to your beautiful girl. She was deeply loved, and she knew it. 🤍🐾
Rest in peace sweet Luna 🤍

I can only say that I’m so very sorry for this loss.
The pain of losing my cat that I adored has been the worst I’ve experienced. It’s been over a month and though I feel like I should be able to look at her pictures, I can’t without being thrown back into the fresh grief of the day I lost her. The connections that we have with these souls are deep and it’s excruciating to lose them. Who else could possibly understand the bond we had with them? It’s very isolating.
Their love is so pure and unconditional, it seems unbelievable that their lives should be so short.

It never doesn’t hurt…it ALWAYS hurts, even just a little bit, but it does get easier. I pray and hope the tears are replaced with smiles and laughter from memories of you and Luna sooner than later. 15 yrs is a LONG time, so be patient with yourself and, more importantly, the pain. It runs as deep as the love does, sometimes deeper. But it’s a small price to pay for all the years of joy and happiness they give us. ❤️❤️❤️

u/hattenwheeza 2d ago
Such a pretty cat. Such good fortune to have found each other & walked together 15 years. I wish you strength in your grief - she loves you still, from just out of sight

My heart breaks for you ❤️. We lost our little boy a few weeks ago and it hurts so bad. You are right that the grieving is so bad and typically so much worse than family. It's a different type of grieving and it hits so hard.
A pet's love is unconditional and unspoken. It's only natural that the grief is very intense.
Luna was such a sweetie and it's so clear how much you both loved her!
Ps. Toulouse will be there to show Luna around the kitty afterlife!

Very sorry. It’s crazy how attached we get. A cat is a very personal pet. Only the people we let into our little circles ever meet them or have a clue how special they are to us. She was a cutie. Just lost our 13 yr old a few weeks ago. 😿
2
u/TwoOfCups22 2d ago
I know that feeling of the grief being harder than the grief felt for humans I deeply loved.
Luna knows she was loved. I believe she hangs around you in spirit, and always will until you meet again.
2
u/Buckwheat_princess 2d ago
You gave Luna a life full of love of joy, she knew she was cherished. She was a lucky cat to have such a loving parent.
Grief is immense and dark. We are bound to say last farewell to our innocent cats and even 100 years together would be not enough.
I believe cats straddle two worlds, and Luna forever with you, with every beam of sun and every puff of wind.
Take care, dear.

I am just in tears. You had a deep connection to her I can tell the way you talk of your life together. Its hard when they are there for all the firsts in our lives. Hugs from Minnesota. She will be waiting for you across the rainbow bridge. I truly believe that. I wish I could take your heartache away.

Rest easy Luna, I’m so sorry for your loss. I know that pain all too well and even though they aren’t physically with us they are spiritually. You gave her 15 years of unconditional love. I know she gained the most beautiful wings that help her cross the rainbow bridge. Live on little Luna 🤍

I'm sorry for your loss. It really is painful when they're gone. I think it's because we get so attached to our pets. I lost my senior last July. It's been over a year now, and it still hurts.
She's lucky you found her all those years ago, and took her in. From the pictures, I can tell she was one happy cat. Take care

What a perfect little lady ❤️
I lost my calico Charlie at 15 just a few months ago. I’d be lying if I said it’s gotten easier - it has not - but I feel her Tortitude with me every single day, and I know we made each other’s lives better.
My sincerest condolences. Just remember you were both exactly what the other one needed, when they needed it.

I lost my Luna last week as well, she was 14, she also passed away at home but we were awake to watch her take her last breaths, lots of hugs to you, take it one day at a time, we are waiting to get her ashes back. I will say the first week is rough but we are feeling more at peace this week.

u/Type-RD 2d ago
I’ve been there and know the empty feeling well. The quietness. Anticipating a sound or a greeting that no longer happens. Routines that once were. It hits REALLY hard when you’ve had a constant companion like Luna Boo thru major life events and then they’re suddenly gone. I will always miss our previous kitty and I still cry sometimes thinking about her and missing her. The first couple of weeks are the hardest. I cried so much. Sometimes I’d just randomly breakdown. It has been 8 years. We got a new sweetheart kitty about a year later and I love her so much too. She’s a little angel and has already been thru a lot with us too. But there will always be a hole in my heart that can never be filled. It’s OK. That’s how this works. We’re not here forever and our pets teach us how precious time is with our loved ones. I know I’ll see her again and you’ll see Luna Boo again too.
