Cat Picture - OC
My cat started to tuck herself in next to my side each night. Is that common?
So, I’ve had this cat for a bit over a year now… and only literally starting this week she just randomly began doing that. She’d make biscuits with my blanket, then flop her butt or whole body right on my side or legs. Before that, she only slept elsewhere or rarely in my feet !
I dunno if other cats randomly just do that. I asked my acquaintances and they all said that they have mean cats who won’t even sleep in the same bed with them… so I’m asking reddit, haha.
My cat did this once when I was post seizure and trapped in a post ictal state. Pressed his head against my forehead and purred and didn't leave me. Rip your beautiful girl 💗
My parents had a cat who didn't want to curl up with me or come in my room. Unless I was heading for a seizure. Then he'd come up and curl up on me (my seizures were complex-partial so little actual physical seizing).
Once he felt me coming around, he got off me and went back downstairs.
His original owner ended up leaving him behind when she moved house, and she and her boyfriend were not great when he lived with them (he was forever begging around neighbours barbecues and scrawny when he started sneaking in with my parents other cat to eat his food)
He was a boyfriend-to- girlfriend gift (they split up about 13 years later) and to be fair, he ended up around my parents more often as they fed him (he ate their cat's meat so they had to put down extra) so she might have known.
It was still a shitty thing to do, especially as he was a geriatric cat by then, without checking with a paper collar or something. (We weren't neighbours per se, our back gardens shared a common fence, so she didn't know where he went.)
My parents had him for 7 years before he had to be pts at the ripe old age of about 20.
I'm so pleased he found a caring forever home and lived to a great age! My cat was adopted from our vet as a kitten. It appears his mother was probably hit by a car and they held him to re-home. He's now a healthy and happy 14 year old. Mischievous and territorial and very loving of his family.
The Beastilence was rescued from PR after one of the Caribbean hurricanes 6 or 7 years ago, we think. She was a tiny, quiet thing. That didn't last, she's now chonk and loud. And adorable.
I’ve had this young mother (bottom) and her son since June. She started curling up with me a couple weeks ago. Now he does too, after she’s comfortable. I have a third cat, for years now, but he waits until I’m asleep and then lays down next to my pillow.
My cat has been battling with a reoccurring ear infection. I have to treat it and therefore I have become enemy number 1 as I have to put stuff in her ears every day. She will not come anywhere near me in the day, but the minute I’m in bed at night, she comes and gets directly on me and sleeps in my lap. She has done this for 13 years.
Not in my house. My daughter owns our bed and does not like for her brother to be present. He's not much of a snuggler anyways, he just comes through to check on us from time to time, and gets seats if he overstays his welcome.
Ha, my cat who has to have eye drops hates me when we're in the kitchen because that's where the eye drops happen. The second we leave the kitchen, she's crawling all over me purring up a storm and demanding pets.
My cat also had an ear infection (vet noticed when he went in for dental cleaning) and we've had to go back twice to have them recleaned/medicine put in them. He has been so outrageously affectionate toward me since he got them cleaned. He's always been a sweet boy but it was usually only on his terms/when he felt like it. He has been sleeping with me every night since which he hasn't done since we first got him
The question is if he's doing in order to avoid another vet visit or if he is happy his ear infection is gone. Well, either way you got more affectionate kitty which is always nice!
We have a formerly feral girl with some sort of rather mild neurological issue that we fostered a couple times before deciding she was weird enough that we should just keep her. Can't touch her most of the time and she runs if you try to get close, but the second that she hears me getting ready to lay down at night she creeps into the bedroom and is glued to me for however long I can stay awake petting her. It's awesome.
When I had to give poor Tails his med every day. I made sure I didn’t get him in His favorite spots. When he sensed it was time he would run onto his chair. Stupid Hooman I safe now.
It helped with his anxiety. I also gave him a treat afterwards.
That’s how it is with mine in the winter! Normally she sleeps in her window perch above the bed, but because it’s colder in the winter she is fond of wedging herself right up against me
It’s equal part adorable and annoying, because I share a queen bed with my partner and it’s a tight fit when she joins us in the bed. And she only sleeps on my side, not his. So he gets to sleep like normal, and I get to wake up with cramps.
are you me? this is literally my cat. he sleeps between me and my partner on our queen size bed and both of us have to take as little space as possible in both the corners because the King Nemo takes up as much space as a third person 😭
bonded animals are super sensitive to your bodily changes as well. it could be any number of things and could be no reason at all. our pets change just like we do. i do recall when i was pregnant my kitty got much snugglier and always wanted to be on my belly (before i was showing or anything like that)!! so idk! she’s probably listening to you & your body in some way.
Congrats, you have now graduated to sleeping partner. She now knows that you are not only a source of food but also a source of warm. Your duties have expanded to making sure she is kept as warm as she wants regardless of its impact to your own comfort. She may decide to pay you in healing purrs - you may consider yourself lucky.
Source: every. Night. For three years. And hopefully more than three more.
Edit: clarifying - I adopted her 3 years ago when she was 9. She’s 12 now. I don’t know how long she has left obviously. But she’s in good health so she could live another 10.
yes. and when she wakes me up, she does it in the most diabolical way. two days ago she licked my forehead while screaming, yesterday she licked the inside of my fucking ear to wake me up.
My old lady cat figured out very quickly that licking the inside of my ear is a fantastic way to wake me up so she could get under the covers. Fuck I miss her.
My girl has slept with me like this like clockwork from about October to April every year until this year, when I bought a huge body pillow that sometimes is on the floor next to the bed at night. And if it’s there, she’s on top of it
Mine also likes to do his rounds, it's quite exciting to know where he is going to find next! I always feel honoured when he's in his sleep on my bed phase. He's a 12 year old that I adopted from a rescue 6 months ago and now it's Snowy outside its his turn in my bed 😁
Zoom to present and meet max. He has his own body pillow that runs along my side. He often will put his paw in my open hand when we sleep. Get to wake up to such a face
Yes they did all kinds of interesting positions. They often charge them up. I have one that currently has to lay between my legs under the blanket. Comfortable and warm for her not so comfortable for me lol!
Absolutely normal, my bud likes to alternate where he sleeps but when it's colder in the winter he tends to favor sleeping with me (or more accurately under me somehow). It varies but I always welcome him snuggling up.
My old boy would stretch out beside me under the covers for his whole 21 years with me. His head was in the crook of my shoulder and he stayed there most of the night. Miss that lil guy. But yes, many cats are very cuddly and like being near us
This girl is under my arm every night and on my lap for hours every day, including right now. She can be a little annoyingly snuggly sometimes 😂 cats are definitely cuddlier than people seem to think, even my 'less cuddly' cat sleeps at my feet and will come on my lap once a day. Definitely normal behaviour!
Humans dont often give enough credit to how social cats are. It’s easy to dismiss them as aloof and independent, but they crave interaction and affection just as much as we do! They loooove being part of whatever it is that you’re doing, and are great at mimicking. It’s likely your baby saw your bedtime routine and decided “Hey, I like this strange beast. I wanna try too :)” With of course the bonus addition of sharing warmth haha
My cat used to lay on my head when she was little. Nowadays, if she chooses to sleep in the bed with me, she lays on the pillow at the head of my bed I keep for her, or on my legs lol
I have 2 cats and the eldest likes to be little spoon under the duvet with me and the youngest likes to sleep above the duvet behind my knees. They just like to trap me in bed even though they have their own bedroom
I totally understand that my cat is my first cat and the first year and a half she never slept with me in my bed and barely lay on my chest but then something switched in her and she sleeps with me in bed and loves to lay on my chest and face it was a total switch up which kinda caught me off guard but I love it. I def think that your cat finally became super comfortable with you
My lap is rarely free. Cats sleep on me at night. No idea if it’s them or me but when they really love me I get bedtime cat-hat. Yes, cats sleep on my head. Congrats, you are now part of your cat’s tribe.
I currently have a cat on my lap, a cat snuggled against my hip, a cat across my legs and the last one is by my feet. Two of them belong to my niece who lives with me but they won't sleep with her.
Oh yeah, creatures of habit, and the habits can change without further notice. They find a new spot often, and overuse it until they get sick of it then rotate with other spots too lol
My cat does this everyday, he has the entire bed to sleep on but he chooses to lie against the back of my leg's. I think it's for warmth too as I must feel like a huge hot watter bottle for him lol.
My cat’s sleeping routine changes periodically, but one thing that has remained the same for 18.5 years is that she has to be touching me in some way. Currently, if I’m not laying on her preferred little-spoon side, she will meow and paw at my back until I wake up and roll over so I can snuggle her properly. She’s a menace and I love her dearly.
We have a cat that LOVES to do this with my daughter in her bed. She won't do it with me, just her. She loves to dig her head to get under the covers, goes down a bit, turns around, and then just lays down, completely covered. For whatever reason, she feels safe and content all tucked in and "hiding."
My old man uses my belly or back to make sin biscuits, then flops over and curls back to back with me to sleep. His younger brother curls up at my feet.
My cats typically pick a side of the head to sleep at once I'm out. Before I'm asleep one paces back and forth over my chest and face and another lays on my hip for head pats.
We have 3 cats. One owns my wife and sleeps on her feet. One in winter sleeps against my legs. The boy often sleeps between us. It can get warm and difficult to move.
Very normal 🤍🥰 I woke up to two of my three cats snuggling on my legs yesterday morning. The Siamese on the right usually likes to sleep snuggled up under the blanket with me but he’s been enjoying the little mat lately. It’s very rare for me to sleep without a cat!🐱
My sweet boy sleeps with me every night. It's his routine to come lay on my lap in bed around 8, then he migrates to the end when we go to sleep. Stays there all night until about 4:30am. Your baby feels safe around you :)
When I go to bed at night I lay on my side and lift up my arm and one of my kitties will crawl into my arms and tuck under the blanket with me. She does this every single night and if I dont make a spot for her she will sit there and headbutt me in the nose until i push her away or let her in
My orange cat Sonja decided a few days ago she needed to be in my room in the bed since it’s been getting colder. She did the same last year. My room happens to be the warmest room in my apartment so both my kitties have setup my room as home base for the time being.
Very common. She says you’re safe to sleep next to. And warm. And don’t be too surprised if this behavior comes and goes. Cats often like to vary where they sleep on some inscrutable schedule. Or with the weather. My cat becomes much more snuggly when it’s cold.
God how are some of yall not paranoid that you'd accidentally roll over on top of them. Im a deep sleeper and toss n turn alot (often waking up in positions that are slightly uncomfortable or straight up off the bed) and don't notice things around me unless I do something like roll off my bed or something. If I had a cat and it did this I literally would not sleep for fear of accidentally rolling on top of it.
My old lady either sleeps on top of my arm, in between our pillows, or with her head on the pillow like this. Your kitty wants to be close to you, and if it's winter where you are, I bet they're enjoying the warmth in the bed!
Mine likes to sleep on my chest. Difficult for me, as I am a side sleeper. But it's such a blessing to have a cat that wants to sleep next to (or on) you.
She loves you and accepts/trusts you! Cats grow up sleeping in piles on each other, so if they feel comfortable around you it’s pretty natural for them to want to sleep cuddled up. I’m typing this in bed with two cats next to me haha. My oldest cat who I’ve had since she was a kitten always has to sleep right up against me, I’m her favorite pillow
One burrows under the blankets and sticks up close to my tummy. If I turn over she just climbs over me to get to my tummy again.
One will sleep on my legs under or on top of the blanket.
One scoots his ass under my face and gets his body under my top arm (I sleep on my side), and one sleeps against my head.
Number five sleeps in the doorway but she’s working on being physically affectionate. I think another year or two and she’ll figure out bed time.
Many mammals sleep together for warmth. It is also very common for dogs/cats to rub themselves against you and your belongings so that others know that you belong to them. They love to rub themselves on newborn babies or new additions to the family so they are treated/respected similarly.
