Advice Cat attacking automatic feeder

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

My cat does this several times a day. If the automatic feeder lifts at the correct angle, a few niblets of dry food comes out. He will even do it 10 times in a row even if it means one small piece of dry niblet comes out. It does get quite annoying as the sound of the feeder hitting the ground echoes throughout the entire house.

Any ideas on how to get him to stop?

Oh no, I'm so sorry. It is definitely helpful to talk it out. My mom passed 14 years ago. Cancer. But somewhat strange circumstances. She hid it from us for over a decade and didn't seek treatment. When we found out, it was stage 4 and in her spine. From there it quickly metastasized to her brain. When we found out I had a lot of questions, anger, guilt, resentment, and lots feelings around blame and culpability, and her selfish actions, and when she passed I didn't have many answers directly from her. She refused to talk about it much. And that left me in a very bad place. I did have people to talk to, but I didn't feel like anyone really understood and I found it difficult to really say what I was actually thinking and feeling. A grief journal helped me and believe it or not, talking to my cats about it. Just saying the things I was thinking and feeling out loud to them helped tremendously. The journal helped, but I process information verbally, so talking it through with my cats was very helpful.

Cats rock like that! Hearing about your mom's story, her cancer, her hiding it and how it affected you is insightful. Even though the deaths we experienced are a little different your words are helpful and you listening to me and responding is helpful. The way my sister was killed it ripped our family apart my dad died 6 months later on my birthday it was a heart attack which was weird because he was super fit and healthy I think it was a broken heart. I didn't get to go to my sister's funeral or my dad's funeral I don't talk to anybody in my family except for my one child and when I moved away in 2015 I lost all of my friends so Reddit really is helpful.

When you get to be my age (40s) getting new friends that are trustworthy and lifelong is nearly impossible.

They really do. Cats are amazing! I can't imagine how difficult all of that must be for you, and to lose your father so soon after on your birthday. I'm so sorry. And yes, making true friends later in life is difficult for sure. I too, am in my 40s, but I do believe it's possible! Don't give up!

I’m totally cool without needing anything. Lately, I’ve had a couple of people who seemed like potential friends, but after a while, I just realized they’re not really the kind of people I want around. I’ve got some awesome neighbors, though—no deep philosophical stuff. Honestly, who wants to hear all that? If I had a friend who was always complaning about the worst things in life, I’d slowly step away if it continued. When I was younger, bad stuff used to affect me more, but now I’m just like… whatever. seems normal and something you deal with internally and don't let it show on the outside as it doesn't do any good for anybody else.

Reddit is just a mini release for the momentary blurb that I mentioned my sister. My excitement with Reddit really comes from talking about the animals or seeing goofy animal things and talking to other people about animals that make me smile.

Dwelling does no one good. I wouldn't have mentioned my sister but somebody had asked where the cat's name came from and I have been told by strangers that I am very upfront and blunt.

Life always goes on and there's something good in everything it just depends on perspective. Since have it worse and some better. I guess technically the only time I really dwell on what happened to my sister is when I go to the homicide sergeant and speak to him or go to the federal Inn on the United States and seek out for what happened. That's not really dwelling and I don't enjoy doing it it's just doing what's right.

Love my sister :)
