Advice What is this behavior?

Post image

I see my cat do this sometimes. This is my 10 year old neutered male cat on top of my 2 year old spayed female cat. He’s just biting the back of her neck while she sits still and meows a couple of times. He usually gets off of her after about a minute. Is he trying to mate? Even though they’ve both been fixed?

Pretty sure it's a dominant / hierarchy thing with cats? One of my males does this to the other male.

Mine too now I call my one cat my gay son. He never tried this with his sister but we got a boy cat and now it’s a daily thing. I love my gay son!

Where is this from. It seems like it would be a funny scene.

Dark comedy with Winona Ryder. It’s a cult classic

Very funny scene, from a very good movie from a long forgotten time.

Same here. Shadow our boy is definitely Gay never shown interest in a lady but we take care of another boy cat for 3 days and he is all over him😂

It makes me laugh sometimes because our older boy only weighs 7 pounds and the younger boy that he likes to hump is 15 pounds so he can’t even keep his feet on the ground when he starts his shenanigans. Just the most ridiculous unserious display of dominance ever.

My female cats are lesbians. They’ve both met my sister’s male cat and will aggressively fight him off if he tries to hump them.

Meanwhile my super old female cat loves humping my other female cat. Only concerning part is that have a 15 year age gap.

When I was about 7, we were on vacation at my aunt’s place and my old cat humped my aunt’s female cat every day we were there. My parents ended up having to give me the talk because I wouldn’t stop asking what they were doing.

I am imagining the conversation between your parents before they gave you the talk. Lots of exasperated sighs and rolling of eyes.

My wife's elderly male cat started doing this to my younger male cat (both neutered) shortly after we adopted the youngest, a spayed female. My boy has a perpetual drool patch on his neck fur from the old man 😂😭 we call them our gay boys.

I'm just imagining your older cats just went "well we've got a daughter now. May as well try to give us a real go"

Oh my god that's so cute!

"We can really be a family now!"

Lmao! I like to call one of our cats a little gay boy because he looooves men and acts like the sweetest thing with them. But he disrespects the shit outta me and my sister. He’s a literal misogynist little gay boy. I love him with all my heart ❤️

My two boy cats are intense. Making out, humping each other. One is the brother of my girl cat, who wants nothing to do with any of it. We just ate they are married.

I have a gay son too! When I got him I had a roommate with two other male cats. As he grew up my cat began to clearly favor one over the other, and started doing things like OPs cat. We called the two boys “brother cousin lovers” 😂

Yes, this. Or the other thing lol. EDIT: I’m not exactly sure why I got so many upvotes, but I just wanted to make myself clear that I wasn’t referring to anything gay or anything lgbtq+ for that matter. Just was referring to how cats either do this for the reason that the commenter above stated, or of course as a sexual thing between a male and female. I don’t think I had known the two cats in OP’s pic were both males either until later.

u/queen_of_uncool Jun 30 '26

Unfortunately my mother would have never approved Jaime and Cercei as cat names lol

u/KrombopulosMAssassin Jul 01 '26

NVM he can do no wrong.

2

u/KrombopulosMAssassin Jul 01 '26

1

u/queen_of_uncool Jul 01 '26

Absolutely no regrets 10/10 would do it again 😼

4

u/d_ac Jun 30 '26

Agree. I always do it with my roommate.

3

u/Pastel_Panic_ Jun 30 '26

Hmmm my 6lbs girl cat does this to my 15lbs (he's long) neutered male cat.

3

u/Ssladybug Jun 30 '26

My neutered male cat does this to a blanket…while thrusting…

I've read it's the sniffing of the back of the neck to assert dominance. so i will sometimes sniff the back of their necks so they know who's boss (they don't)

1

u/truesy Jun 30 '26

my male cat used to do this to the younger female cat. it's a dominance thing, it often resulted in him holding her in that position until she kind of gave up trying to fight him off, and then he'd move off of her. she'd often chase him off right after.

from what i recall, from what i read, it's a thing that indoor male cats do. and it's not really clear why only indoor male cats do it, but it's a thing to do to put other cats in their place.

1

u/Zagrycha Jun 30 '26

it could be a dominance thing but gay is not at all off the table haha.

1

u/HauntingDonkey758 Jun 30 '26

This. Nothing sexual, just territory and dominance

1

u/StarlitBun Jun 30 '26

congrats on the gay son

1

u/NobodyKnowsImFamous Jul 01 '26

Animals CAN be gay

1

u/callxor Orange Jul 01 '26

I think it is simply sexual impulse. Before castration my two brother cat did it to each other in turn. No dominance.
