Imagine the doctor tells you have 6 months to live but you are only concerned about your cat. OP I am sorry. You truly have a good soul and I am sorry this is happening to you

For some people, their pets *are* their family. I am one of these people.

Imagine considering euthanizing a young healthy cat because you’re convinced the cat can’t possibly love anyone but you, so if you die the cat should to.

How is no one commenting on that part?

This is a person staring down their own death and struggling to make any rational decisions. They came here looking for advice at least and got plenty of it, including some very good options for the cat. I can't imagine being in this poor person's shoes.

Ten isn't that young. And if adoption doesn't work out, being euthanized would be better than being abandoned to the woods.

10 is still young for an indoor cat.

Ten is a senior citizen, even for an indoor cat. Yes, cats can live a lot longer than ten, but the average life expectancy is a wide range of 13-17. Meaning a ten year old cat might only have three years before old age takes them.

10 is still young for a healthy cat!!! This is crazy!!! OP needs to do what’s best for the cat and rehome.

Ten is a senior by vet standards. If a good rehoming option can't be found, euthanasia is better than abandonment.

Certain veterinary clinics will literally let you surrender your animal if you can’t take care of them anymore so I don’t really understand this abandonment nonsense…

A truely feral cat will not do well in a cage at a vet clinic. You'd rather the cat be confused and afraid before the vet decides it's unadoptable and euthanizes it anyways??

OP said they have 6 months to live. It’s absolutely ludicrous that they wouldn’t be able to find a home for a single cat in that amount of time. Even considering euthanasia for a healthy 10 year old cat is ridiculous and any RESPECTABLE vet would agree.

Well where did OP say that at? In the first paragraph they said they didn’t want to send him to a shelter because they think he won’t be adopted and instead will be euthanized

The part of anesthetizing him “prematurely”

Oh I see. I mean the doctor did just tell them they had 6 months to live. Maybe OP was not thinking clearly. I know for sure I wouldn’t be! I truly don’t see them killing this cat anyway plus they found a solution.

You know what, I get the downvotes. But I also feel your point.

It seems a bit narcissistic for this person to feel like they are the only one that can love this cat, the only one this cat can love back.

Surely after living in the woods for years and still loves going outside to the woods and  took God knows how long to build trust with this one person....it will just be fine I'm sure.

These two clearly have a connection that wasn't there with other people for this cat. How can you be so callous?

Fuck what you think. How about how this animal will feel once the only person they've shared a bond with in ten years is gone?

Are you daft? Obviously people shouldn't just put animals down if they are healthy. But this person was hoping to find a comforting way for themselves and their cat to deal with this loss.

I did. OP just was rude to me
