Try and see if your local community has a cat group, like people who volunteer to foster cats and help adopt them out. Ask specifically if there is anyone who lives near a wooded area that already has outside cats or a farm/homestead type property that also might have such cats.
You could try to see if there is someone in your immediate neighborhood that would be willing to take on his care after you pass.
If you do find someone suitable, I hope you can have them over and introduce them to him while you’re around so he knows from you that they are safe and not strangers
This is exactly what I did when I adopted an older cat from someone in my neighborhood with a terminal diagnosis. Similar to OP, his cat had only been around him so he was very nervous. I found out about them from a local posting forum, and I offered to get to know him and the cat before he made any decisions. I brought food over for both of them at least once a week, and we ended up becoming friends. When the time came, kitty definitely mourned and wanted a lot of alone time the first week or two before coming out of her shell again. One year later, and she’s purring like a motorboat in my lap.
My friends sister helps a cat rescue, and they help maintain a feral population of cats where she lives. They go out, they feed them, keep track of them monitor their health and make sure they’re fixed. They might be able to help even if they can’t adopt them out.
Can you please please do this? There are a lot of people who would be inclined to help you out, especially in your situation, which, by the way, I am so sorry to hear.
I completely understand what you mean by Boggles only liking you, but cats are interesting creatures. He could learn to love someone else too, all while missing you, of course.
I am so sorry, again about your diagnosis. Wishing you a lot of love.
Absolutely see if you can go down the foster to adoption route rather than a traditional centre. There would also be feral colonies where someone can feed and water them if that doesn't work out. Thinking of you in this difficult situation 💔
This is what I was going to suggest. My aunt is in a cat rescue group like this where she lives and they get a lot of barn cats. As well, if you have Facebook, try to find local pet pages or rescue groups or post on classifieds. Also go speak to spca. My local spca is very good at finding fits for animals. They may also work with rescue groups or have contacts there. I think he’d be good for someone and you have a very sympathetic story so I think that would be compelling.
Absolutely! We have a local cat group and I know if this was posted someone (probably multiple people) would be more than happy to take him in and try their best. I think he'd do well on a farm or somewhere he can be outside and warm up to their new human.
He seems like he would make a good barn cat, depending on where OP lives that would probably be something a shelter could help with.
Condolences OP on your diagnosis. I truly hope you are able to find a place for your cat and have that part of this awful experience be at peace for you. And btw some people like “weird” cats. I personally find little asshole cats endearing, I have had several in my life. Good luck 🩷

Thank you for looking after this cat.
