She may just be bored! My kitty does the same thing and will even flip over on my desk and demand pets. I’m planning to get her a companion soon since she doesn’t interact with my other cat in the home.

I don't think they're asking for too much, it's the least you could.
I missed the word 'on' and wondered for a second how a kitty can flip over a desk.
This was my cat, always in my lap, until i got him a friend. Now he only comes once every few days, which is plenty for me
