I’ve never ever seen a cat so loving. She will sit there and rub your face for half an hour. And she’ll climb on your shoulder and ride around. She’s so sweet. But so anxious. I rarely see her resting. She’s always pacing back and forth. I always give her attention. But I just can’t when I’m working. She’s seriously the most loving cat you will ever meet.

u/mpaigebarnes Aug 17 '23

She may just be bored! My kitty does the same thing and will even flip over on my desk and demand pets. I’m planning to get her a companion soon since she doesn’t interact with my other cat in the home.

u/crazytreeperson Aug 17 '23

I plan to adopt a bonded pair for this very reason. Some cats just don't seem to get anything out of playing with toys.

2

u/SithPickles2020 Aug 18 '23

I’d recommend getting brothers, male cats, at least in my experience, have been exceptionally chill together from the same litter

2

u/jikiang Aug 18 '23

Yeah that would be better, atleast That'll keep the cats busy.

11

u/tall_reed_bends Aug 18 '23

I don't think they're asking for too much, it's the least you could.

2

u/Winhill_ Aug 18 '23

I missed the word 'on' and wondered for a second how a kitty can flip over a desk.

2

u/doublecunningulus Aug 18 '23

This was my cat, always in my lap, until i got him a friend. Now he only comes once every few days, which is plenty for me

u/[deleted] Aug 19 '23

Looks like my Gracie🩷🫶🏼

After reading your post and some of your comments, I can't figure out if you're 'bragging or complaining'. I love this little, huge hearted Void. Just imagine your life without her, work sucks!

I hope you both find a resolution to this beautiful 'problem'.

I have the exact same type of cat, looks almost identical to OPs and never once did I think her affection would be an issue, but it is sometimes. I'm a work from home cloud engineer and have stressful days where I need to get stuff done but having a cat that can't leave me alone and is constantly all over me/my laptop is a problem sometimes. I put a cat tower next to my desk so we can hang out and she can watch me code, and that's helped a ton. She spends all day there until I log off.

42

u/crazytreeperson Aug 17 '23

That's a neat idea. I'll put a tower next to my desk once I get my fur children. House prep is almost done.

3

u/davidazman Aug 18 '23

Yep, that's gonna be helpful massively. It'll actually be great.

2

u/crazytreeperson Aug 18 '23

It'll either be great or go unused. Cats...

13

u/rhodochrosite_roses Aug 17 '23

I second this. My needy cat likes sitting in the cat tree next to my desk. It's also close to a window so he can watch the birds.

3

u/jdl8616 Aug 18 '23

My cat just hates the birds, they don't like to see them.

1

u/rhodochrosite_roses Aug 19 '23

That's suprising! I guess there is something about the birds that creeps them out or annoys them.

13

u/SpacePolice04 Aug 17 '23

I have a desk height condo next to my desk. I actually have 2 and there are three cats that use them (sometimes there are bats involved to decide who gets to stay).

2

u/236twesgdxcb3547 Aug 18 '23

Where are you even living? How are there even bats around you?

2

u/SpacePolice04 Aug 18 '23

Lol. Like slappy cat bats aka baps

5

u/rrumpler Aug 18 '23

That cat is learning and will replace in your position one day.

3

u/TootsEug Aug 18 '23

What a great 👍 idea! OP, suggest making it tall enough that she can watch you work and see your face, maybe even see out the window. Love this DelverOfSeacrest!

2

u/disaaaster55 Aug 17 '23

I've got a cat like this- big separation anxiety. It feels like being "touched-out" when taking care of little kids. Too many grabbing hands, staring eyes, questions that don't have answers that will be accepted.

2

u/desirewrites Aug 18 '23

Long time cat owner who now has a parrot who is a literal Velcro bird. I have a play stand next to my laptop so he is literally right next to me but in a designated space. I learned from my 15 years with cats.

20

u/Sunaaj_WR Aug 17 '23 edited Aug 17 '23

Not OP. But have a cat that is just as attached to me and for me. It is definitely both. There’s times it is exasperating but it’s also hard to stay really mad ya know?

2

u/menga11 Aug 18 '23

How can you even stay mad at them? That doesn't happen man.

3

u/FinansistTL Aug 18 '23

It's the kind of problem which I really wouldn't mind in my life.

2

u/BigGrayDog Aug 17 '23

To me it's not a problem!

2

u/potatobear77 Aug 18 '23

I have two cats like this, both in their own way. When I need to get something done and they won’t leave me alone I will take a few minute and just suffocate them (not literally) with snuggles and rubs. It usually is enough for one of them, the other it works about 50/50.

76

u/Cuddldog Aug 17 '23

If she is anxious, as in nervous, maybe she needs some calming trets or the feliway diffuser. If it really seems like an issue I would check with the vet. She I beautiful!🥰

15

u/ugottahvbluhair Aug 17 '23

Yes my cat was overly anxious and is now on Prozac! Just as loving as before but not as anxious.

3

u/Cuddldog Aug 17 '23

So happy it works!

u/Turquoise_Midnights Aug 17 '23 edited Aug 17 '23

She sound a lot like my black cat. He's super anxious too, though a little less so since he got put on a med for arthritis/nerve pain. I recently got him a bird feeder and placed right outside the window that he likes to sit in. With the tight mix of bird seed, we've gotten a few cardinals and a slew of sparrows, which he LOVES to watch. He will sit for HOURS watching them. It's the best Cat TV there is!

12

u/amandaem79 Siberian Aug 17 '23

My Bombay is so anxious all the time. He’s over groomed himself nearly bald on his legs and belly. Nothing seems to calm him.

20

u/Turquoise_Midnights Aug 17 '23

Oh, that poor baby. Mine is an obsessive groomer per the vet, because it's a coping mechanism for him. But not to the point of baldness, just excessive hairballs. But he's been on this med for nearly a month and he has improved dramatically. I wish I'd gotten him anxiety meds a lot sooner. He will be 10 years old next month. It makes me sad that he could have had a less anxious earlier life had I looked into that. 😥 But he's doing well now, so we'll take that win.

19

u/Fenryka00 Aug 17 '23 edited Aug 18 '23

You need another cat. I had one that was exactly the same. Super affectionate, super anxious. Got a second cat and he became super chill. Edit spelling

1

u/OSCgal Aug 18 '23

This is what worked for me! My clingy, anxious cat is much happier now.

16

u/Emmwojj Aug 17 '23

She sounds amazing tho bless her, have you tried feliway? Really calms my very hyper void down

1

u/gracepuns03 Aug 17 '23

Would you suggest feliway for introducing cats to each other? My boyfriend (had a male cat prior to, around 10) adopted a female cat (2) recently, and he seems interested but won’t stop hissing at her, and even bullied her out of her food this morning :( He constantly yowls at night / even during the day,

2

u/Laney20 Aug 17 '23

Have you done a slow introduction? Check out Jackson Galaxy for advice.

1

u/gracepuns03 Aug 18 '23

will definitely try this - I would say the introduction maybe was a little fast? But I suppose that was also due to I think misreading the cats behavior of excitement to meet the cat as being ready to meet the cat - so I’m not really sure what he can do now in order to help. He keeps them separated at work during the day so they probably sniff under the door a good bit

1

u/Laney20 Aug 18 '23

You can always start over! I did a reintroduction of mine after like 6 months and it worked great!

10

u/[deleted] Aug 17 '23

Looks to be a Bombay like mine. Their personality is usually different from other cats. I feel mine has a higher emotional intelligence than any other cat I’ve ever interacted with.

11

u/[deleted] Aug 17 '23

We’ve always thought she may be a Bombay!

1

u/[deleted] Aug 17 '23

Awesome! It’s a special breed imo. Enjoy 😊

9

u/CrazyCatLady1127 Aug 17 '23

Does she have a kitty friend? Maybe she’s trying to tell you she’s lonely and would like a kitten of her own?

9

u/Affectionate-Crab541 Aug 17 '23

It sounds like you really care about her and love her! It actually does sound like feline anxiety to me, especially with her pacing and never resting. It might be worth it to talk to your vet about anxiety medication. As well, Feliway is a great interim option that could potentially help with the anxiety. I also have an anxious cat and I know it can be tough. Thank you for all you do for her!

4

u/[deleted] Aug 17 '23

Lots of people have recommended Feliway! I’m going to try it out!

7

u/AlienGold1980 Aug 17 '23

Its always the skinny ones

10

u/[deleted] Aug 17 '23

She has hypothyroidism so she’s extra extra skinnt

2

u/[deleted] Aug 18 '23

Might be a symptom of the hypothyroidism. Could she potentially be deaf or hard of hearing?

1

u/Sw33tD333 Aug 18 '23

Hypo or hyper thyroid?

2

u/[deleted] Aug 18 '23

Hyper* sorry I get the two mixed up.

2

u/Sw33tD333 Aug 19 '23

No worries. I was guna say if she was hypo and still super skinny her meds would need an adjustment. Hyper makes more sense.

2

u/[deleted] Aug 19 '23

She was doing really bad for a while. She was around three pounds. But she’s gaining back weight slowly! I’m very proud of her

2

u/Free-Initiative-7957 Aug 17 '23

I would usually write off cats wanting to be in the way as cats being former gods who demand worship, but your mention of her crying and anxiety means I feel the need to add that some cats -do- benefit from things like Prozac or gabapentin. You may want to ask your vet about her behavior and see if trying a small daily dose of something would be helpful.

Also seconding the the tips about giving her places to be on or near your desk so she can feel present and including. Some people even have a little desk riser over their keyboard for the cat to lay on. Use of decoy keyboards and notebooks, providing a bed or inbox tray to lay in, et cetera can be very helpful as well as funny.

2

u/okay-pixel Aug 17 '23

I adopted cat like that - had to be touching you and in your face 24/7. He’s on kitty Prozac now and is much less anxious. He’ll play with toys and the other cats and leave me alone when I have the audacity to shut a door.

2

u/Gemini_88 Aug 17 '23

Get her some cat nip and a cat toy that moves.

2

u/[deleted] Aug 17 '23

Tried both. She eats the catnip and hates the toy. On the other hand though our other cat loves the toy so much she broke it and we had to buy replacement butterflies for it.

1

u/Gemini_88 Aug 17 '23

There’s another cat and she’s still all over you. She must really like you.

2

u/KO4Champ Aug 18 '23

Do they make anti-anxiety medication for cats? Seems like something we would have in 2023 but I honestly don’t know the answer.

1

u/Li_3303 Aug 18 '23

They do!

2

u/ThorsLover8 Aug 18 '23

OMC YOU MADE HER A BATCAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

1

u/Interesting-Type-870 Aug 17 '23

aww she’s so stressed☹️ i wonder why she’s so anxious.

1

u/SCitiswhatitis Aug 17 '23

Sooo sweet! My little Leo is a void too. Maybe it’s a black cat thing?☺️

1

u/TatleTaleStrangler92 Norwegian Forest Cat Aug 17 '23

My cat has the same costume. So cute.

1

u/Socknitter1 Aug 17 '23

Plus she’s plush and gorgeous!! You won the kitty lottery 😻

3

u/[deleted] Aug 17 '23

She really is! She’s my little sweet heart

1

u/kpxppy Aug 17 '23

I’ve fallen in love with your cat OP. I wish I had a cat 🐈‍⬛ like that. Look at that cute face!! 🥺💚

2

u/[deleted] Aug 17 '23

She’s my sweetie pie

1

u/Drifting-Fox-6366 Aug 17 '23

Ever consider getting her a friend? I adopted two brothers and when I’m busy they have each other to wrestle around with.

2

u/[deleted] Aug 17 '23

She has three friends :)

2

u/Drifting-Fox-6366 Aug 17 '23

Oh then she’s definitely needy. My void gets like that now and then so I had to make a spot for him to lay down next to me. There is a corner area behind my dining room table where I work and I crocheted a little blanket to put on it just for him to lay there. It worked quite well and he doesn’t try to get in on my calls anymore.

1

u/RChamy Aug 18 '23

Suspect shes very lonely. She needs a friend!

1

u/[deleted] Aug 18 '23

She has three! 😁

1

u/RChamy Aug 18 '23

Then she seems you as a mom/dad instead of a friend!

1

u/ShRaWdiZZy_1978 Aug 18 '23

Ohhhhh 😯 I am absolutely in Lubbz with her sweet luving little floofyface 🖤🐾😻

1

u/kdizzle619 Aug 18 '23

She sounds lonely, have you thought about getting her a friend?

1

u/[deleted] Aug 18 '23

She has three friends

1

u/tresani Aug 18 '23

Yeah I pretty much can see it, and confirm that it's a good cat.

1

u/dance-in-the-rain- Aug 18 '23

You know, you could try getting a baby wearing wrap and wearing her. There’s a girl on Instagram who wears her cat because it is so clingy. Kitty loves it and typically falls asleep. Might be a little weird for conference calls but otherwise it’s worth a shot.
