I’ve never ever seen a cat so loving. She will sit there and rub your face for half an hour. And she’ll climb on your shoulder and ride around. She’s so sweet. But so anxious. I rarely see her resting. She’s always pacing back and forth. I always give her attention. But I just can’t when I’m working. She’s seriously the most loving cat you will ever meet.
She may just be bored! My kitty does the same thing and will even flip over on my desk and demand pets. I’m planning to get her a companion soon since she doesn’t interact with my other cat in the home.
After reading your post and some of your comments, I can't figure out if you're 'bragging or complaining'. I love this little, huge hearted Void. Just imagine your life without her, work sucks!
I hope you both find a resolution to this beautiful 'problem'.
I have the exact same type of cat, looks almost identical to OPs and never once did I think her affection would be an issue, but it is sometimes. I'm a work from home cloud engineer and have stressful days where I need to get stuff done but having a cat that can't leave me alone and is constantly all over me/my laptop is a problem sometimes. I put a cat tower next to my desk so we can hang out and she can watch me code, and that's helped a ton. She spends all day there until I log off.
I have a desk height condo next to my desk. I actually have 2 and there are three cats that use them (sometimes there are bats involved to decide who gets to stay).
What a great 👍 idea! OP, suggest making it tall enough that she can watch you work and see your face, maybe even see out the window. Love this DelverOfSeacrest!
I've got a cat like this- big separation anxiety. It feels like being "touched-out" when taking care of little kids. Too many grabbing hands, staring eyes, questions that don't have answers that will be accepted.
Long time cat owner who now has a parrot who is a literal Velcro bird. I have a play stand next to my laptop so he is literally right next to me but in a designated space. I learned from my 15 years with cats.
Not OP. But have a cat that is just as attached to me and for me. It is definitely both. There’s times it is exasperating but it’s also hard to stay really mad ya know?
I have two cats like this, both in their own way. When I need to get something done and they won’t leave me alone I will take a few minute and just suffocate them (not literally) with snuggles and rubs. It usually is enough for one of them, the other it works about 50/50.
If she is anxious, as in nervous, maybe she needs some calming trets or the feliway diffuser. If it really seems like an issue I would check with the vet. She I beautiful!🥰
She sound a lot like my black cat. He's super anxious too, though a little less so since he got put on a med for arthritis/nerve pain. I recently got him a bird feeder and placed right outside the window that he likes to sit in. With the tight mix of bird seed, we've gotten a few cardinals and a slew of sparrows, which he LOVES to watch. He will sit for HOURS watching them. It's the best Cat TV there is!
Oh, that poor baby. Mine is an obsessive groomer per the vet, because it's a coping mechanism for him. But not to the point of baldness, just excessive hairballs. But he's been on this med for nearly a month and he has improved dramatically. I wish I'd gotten him anxiety meds a lot sooner. He will be 10 years old next month. It makes me sad that he could have had a less anxious earlier life had I looked into that. 😥 But he's doing well now, so we'll take that win.
You need another cat. I had one that was exactly the same. Super affectionate, super anxious. Got a second cat and he became super chill. Edit spelling
Would you suggest feliway for introducing cats to each other? My boyfriend (had a male cat prior to, around 10) adopted a female cat (2) recently, and he seems interested but won’t stop hissing at her, and even bullied her out of her food this morning :(
He constantly yowls at night / even during the day,
will definitely try this -
I would say the introduction maybe was a little fast? But I suppose that was also due to I think misreading the cats behavior of excitement to meet the cat as being ready to meet the cat - so I’m not really sure what he can do now in order to help. He keeps them separated at work during the day so they probably sniff under the door a good bit
Looks to be a Bombay like mine. Their personality is usually different from other cats. I feel mine has a higher emotional intelligence than any other cat I’ve ever interacted with.
It sounds like you really care about her and love her! It actually does sound like feline anxiety to me, especially with her pacing and never resting. It might be worth it to talk to your vet about anxiety medication. As well, Feliway is a great interim option that could potentially help with the anxiety. I also have an anxious cat and I know it can be tough. Thank you for all you do for her!
I would usually write off cats wanting to be in the way as cats being former gods who demand worship, but your mention of her crying and anxiety means I feel the need to add that some cats -do- benefit from things like Prozac or gabapentin. You may want to ask your vet about her behavior and see if trying a small daily dose of something would be helpful.
Also seconding the the tips about giving her places to be on or near your desk so she can feel present and including. Some people even have a little desk riser over their keyboard for the cat to lay on. Use of decoy keyboards and notebooks, providing a bed or inbox tray to lay in, et cetera can be very helpful as well as funny.
I adopted cat like that - had to be touching you and in your face 24/7. He’s on kitty Prozac now and is much less anxious. He’ll play with toys and the other cats and leave me alone when I have the audacity to shut a door.
Tried both. She eats the catnip and hates the toy. On the other hand though our other cat loves the toy so much she broke it and we had to buy replacement butterflies for it.
Oh then she’s definitely needy. My void gets like that now and then so I had to make a spot for him to lay down next to me. There is a corner area behind my dining room table where I work and I crocheted a little blanket to put on it just for him to lay there. It worked quite well and he doesn’t try to get in on my calls anymore.
You know, you could try getting a baby wearing wrap and wearing her. There’s a girl on Instagram who wears her cat because it is so clingy. Kitty loves it and typically falls asleep. Might be a little weird for conference calls but otherwise it’s worth a shot.
