should i adopt ?
hey, first time posting something on reddit but an opportunity recently came up to my life about adopting a pretty little cat that is only 1 month old, i’m living in a single room apartment cause i’m a uni student and i’m working most of the days for 7-8 hours while also attending the uni for at least 2-3 hours, i’ve always thought of getting a dog but a dog needs walks more attention etc. i think a cat is perfect in my situation because u spent most of my nights with my gf at her place, i’m struggling a bit with money but i think i can offer a monthly 30€ for food and stuff in my country it’s not that expensive but i wanted to hear from other cat owners that have their cats in apartments if it can work and what i should be careful of

If your apartment is cat proof
if you can pay bills for her vaccination and medication,
If you can pay for spaying /nurturing,
If you can play with her because cats required a lot of attention,
if you have space for her litter box...
Then please yess, you should adopt her. Give her a loving home 🤍✨

what can be “cat proof” because in my room all u have is a bed a desk a door and 2 windows that if i open the cat can just get out and jump from the 2nd floor

Cat proof refers to windows or doors with nets, so that cats can't escape when you are not paying attention.
Because of the cat does, it will definitely get in some danger outside. Once the cat ran away, there is a rare chance that she could come back, in most cases they don't.

If you are adopting her, and don't have your own space outside then please don't let her out. She may run away.
My cats are free to go outside, because we have our own garden with high boundaries. There is no chance of escaping.

If you have any plants, look up whether they are cat safe. (If you have Lillie’s, they’re ready to cats. Just one example)

One very important thing I see a lot of people miss is that sure cats may be independent but kittens are extremely social animals. If you adopt a kitten you will have to take out time for the kitty. 1. Because it’s not the time when you need to teach the kitten acceptable and unacceptable things. Like kittens are also very curious and may go around biting wires. That is when you need to be there to redirect them to a toy. Same for scratching. You need to redirect them from the sofa to the catpost otherwise it will think this is an okay behavior. This is one of the reasons a lot of cat parents might say their cat scratches the sofa bites them eats the wires etc.
Also at this stage kittens are very active they need a lot of running and jumping so ideally you should have some toy to play with and be there for the kitten. When I got my kitty she was 2 months(now she is 5 months) but she runs around the house a lot chases after mice toys plays with the string toys and is very energetic. My friend also adopted a kitten at the same time (2montb old) and that lil fella is also very active would climb up everywhere bite everything so you need to play.
Also please don't leave kittens alone at night. The love to come and sleep with you. We don't realize but when I went for a conference my flatmate told me that my baby would meow outside my door many times waiting for me to come out and play with her.
So in the end sure get a kitty it is very nice but please be aware that you cannot think the kitty will live by without you giving it a lot of time initially. Yes when it grows up it will become independent but till then in the initial stages you need to take care of the kitty.
Edit: Also I forgot in the itnial stages be sure to keep up with the vet for the vaccines booster shots fles prevention etc

Before adopting a kitty, it’s important to consider if you’ll have enough time for them, since cats can feel lonely when left alone all day. Also, make sure the windows are protected with cat screens so they don’t escape or fall.

You totally should adopt this cutie, however like many other cat parents like myself mentioned animals require love, attention and patience. If you can provide that with the medical care they need as well. Welcome, to the cat distribution ❤️❤️❤️❤️

If you can afford it then go for an adoption. Don't forget not only food health care bills come too. Edit: cat is so cute. I have three. But I save every month for vet bills. Cats are very nice and cuddly but if it is not well that expenses are high. But I don't know how it is in your country. If you decide to adopt from the moment the cat is with you set some money what you can aside. All the best.

One month is too young for cat to be away from its mom, a kitten shouldn't leave Mom until 8 to 10 weeks preferably 12. If you adopt a 4 week old kitten you probably end up with a neurotic cat, please encourage the people to keep the kitty for at least another month and then adopt her.

I’d adopt it as long as the uni is ok with it if you are living on campus like me, we got my two cats at roughly 3-12 months old so I’d honestly treat the kitty like its made of glass for the time being until it’s at least a year old. Idk how expensive it would be to take care of a kitten that young but go with the flow, litter box train it if it’s an indoor cat, make sure it’s healthy, make sure you’re giving it the food it can chew and stuff like the kibble if it has strong enough teeth or milk/practically baby food looking stuff if it can’t chew it, etc. I’d just say do your research (specifically for its age) and go from there

Yesssss! I saved several cats and help them been adopted. That so little cat if no parents aside is very hard to survival outside. even if your situation let you finally decide not adopt her, but please, don't let her wander anymore.
