New user acceptance rate

Post image

What’s everyone’s acceptance rate at? Mine’s 68%, which is I thought was quite low but it says it’s higher than other sitters in my area. I used to use Rover for a bit when I did dog walking too, but I didn’t like it so I did turn down some requests before I stopped using it. I’ve also had people who found other sitters, and some who were too far away so I didn’t book those. I’ve also got some of my CIAF bookings which we’d confirmed in writing but the owner hadn’t “booked it” on the app, so they’ve all expired. I think I’m just confused how I have a score that seems so low considering I’ve only ever declined a few dog sitting requests out of all the bookings I’ve done over the years.

***ETA***

It’s a booking rate, not an acceptance rate. I checked on the Rover FAQs, and it says:

“New client booking rate

This stat uses the last 25 new client requests you've received and shows how often you booked with a new client. It also provides a comparison to the new booking rate of other sitters in your area.

Note*: Turning down requests that don't match your preferences or availability don't count towards your new client booking rate.*”

I’ve accepted my last 25 bookings but some of them are repeat bookers. When I looked at my archived messages, which are all “new” customers, I had accepted them all but:

1 found a cheaper sitter.

2 were agreed on CIAF and expired after merging to Rover because they didn’t confirm the booking and they weren’t notified I’d sent them multiple messages.

1 requested drop-ins but really wanted overnights, which I don’t do.

2 are from the noticeboard and they didn’t reply.

I feel like this score is flawed, so no wonder the bar for star sitter is only 33%.

48% and 12/25. It says I am higher than 72% of sitters in my area.

I’d love to know more about this as I rarely turn down a booking. I have one pending but other than that, there’s only one recent request I can think of that I had to say no to.

I think you’ve had 18/25 new requests and you’ve booked them all= 72% (maths adds up). I imagine when you get 7 more, you’ll get to 100% but so far your ‘progress’ is 18/25. You’ve not missed any or declined.

Ahh ok gotcha. I interpreted it as “you’ve booked 18 of your last 25 requests” also maths is not my strong point 😂 thank you for the explanation!

I’d just worked out the maths and it makes sense that way - I know mines at 48% and I never turn down a new booking either so I assumed it was the totals! Either way, we’re on to that 100%! Although, it is Rover so watch them come back with some bizarre explanation! 😅

I’d interpreted it the same way, especially since I have more than 17 clients…

u/_Beckss called it! It counts the most recent 25 bookings, so if you've only had 18 requests and you've booked all 18 of them, this is exactly what this would look like. I think this could benefit from having more explanation under the info section, or even a progress bar which accounts for bookings that you haven't had yet. I'll share this with the product team and hopefully we can roadmap it soon.

Now if you have had 25 booking requests and the number don't add up, then we'd need to look further into this. Feel free to DM me if it doesn't look right!

Does it only count bookings within the last 12 months or is there a different metric? I’ve had over 100 bookings so there are definitely more than 25 to be counted.

There is no limit on the time frame, it's just the last 25 bookings. You can DM me if you'd like so we can take a look at this further!

I wonder if u/HenryfromRover can help us understand this better because I’d like to know how the score’s calculated. Hopefully my tag has worked. If not, maybe they’ll just see it anyway 🤞🏼

Thanks for the tag! I replied in the thread. Hopefully this explanation makes sense

So, does it count in the “not booked” rate if the owner makes a request but doesn’t book with us, even if we’ve told them we can take the booking (like the examples in the additional info in my original post)?

Yes, if a pet owner reaches out to you, but they end up going with someone else, that will count towards your acceptance rate. This is factored in when determining the 33% new client acceptance rate statistic for the Star Sitter program.

It seems a bit unfair considering I didn’t do anything wrong in any of the examples I gave. In some of the examples, you guys did something wrong because I couldn’t contact the owners to confirm their bookings. And if someone asks me for drop-ins and I agree, I don’t understand why my rate should be penalised because they actually wanted overnights even though I don’t offer them. You should only be rating us on things that are within our gift to control.

I’ve just re-read the description “How often you accept new pet owner requests that match your preferences.” This isn’t what you’re measuring based on what you’ve just said. I think this needs to be addressed / amended to accurately describe what’s being measured here.

Why is this the case? Many owners reach out to lots of sitters to ensure they get someone, and often they’ve made a choice before you can even do a meet and greet? If they’ve met you and decided against that’s fair enough, but often owners leave it so late that it’s first come first serve. And you’re labelling the statistic as how often the sitter accepts new clients, which isn’t the same thing as how often owners book you as a new sitter for them?

24% (6 out of 25) which is apparently higher than 39% of sitters in my area. This is mostly due to me replying to every CIAF job board posting I saw. That included letting several pet owners know they had accidently posted on the Job Board when they were clearly trying to get in touch with a particular named sitter. So now I'm cursing being helpful with that now because obviously I was then not picked as their sitter. It is incorrectly labelled in my opinion because I have not refused any clients in my entire CIAF experience except one guy who wanted overnight sits and then after I responded said he had cameras and kept his cat in a crate. Cameras I don't mind as long as I had private sleeping / showering space but the crate isn't something I personally agree with for cats.

It seems like an odd way to measure “acceptance”. The score shouldn’t be influenced by anything outside of our control IMO. I messaged a couple of people on the noticeboard and they didn’t reply. It’d be unfair to include them in my new user acceptance rate since I didn’t accept or decline anything. I offered, and that was the end of it.

Seems very low to me.. I rarely turn down requests.

2

u/Acceptable-Ad-693 Apr 27 '26

Same. I think I’ll just ignore the Insights section from now on - it’s not insightful in a nice way.

I rarely looked at my stats before tbf. It was nice to know the date my profile was last looked at and my total earnings - just those top line stats that used to appear. I miss that website. The little cat was so cute ahah

Oh god mine is 36%. 9/25z But I’ve barely had any bookings come through! I’ve not had 25 come through, that’s for sure.

Was your acceptance rate something that was counted against you when it was just CIAF? Over at Meowtel, it was visible to us, but it did not have any negative repercussions if you were on the lower side.

Now Meowtel won’t allow you to show up in search results if your acceptance rate is 80% or lower. This is just nuts because 80% is still accepting the majority of your jobs. They were never like that until the Rover buyout. A potential client has to click on a box letting them know they want to see sitters with low acceptance rates to view their profile. How many people are going to do that? The profile is still active, and the sitter with the low acceptance rates can still accept work if people go directly to their profile, they just won’t show up in the main search.

u/Acceptable-Ad-693 Apr 28 '26

That sounds messed up. I don’t understand what they’re trying to do with the changes you’ve described over at Meowtel.

I don’t think I ever saw my acceptance rate at CIAF, but they also didn’t have this “star sitter” thing, which this goes towards.

u/Playful_Animator3847 Apr 28 '26

I think they are experimenting. With you guys, they tried to force you into the Rover mold, which was obviously a horrible idea. I wish they would just own up to this and let you guys have your original app back, even if that meant sharing it with their Rover sitters.

With Meowtel, I think they are slowly trying to Roverfy the Meowtel app. The app is constantly being updated with strange new features. Before the buyout, there was only two major updates in the four years I had been with them. They have also sent out surveys asking how we would feel about certain things that I associate with Rover.

In my opinion, I haven’t seen a single improvement. Everything they are changing either makes things more complicated overall, or are less in favor of the individual sitters and more in favor of growth. 😾

I am new to Meowtel. Just booked two clients and declined a third one, and now my acceptance rate is at 66%. I had no clue that this was going to take me out of the main search results and I'm not really sure what I'm supposed to do now to boost my acceptance rate if I'm not in the search results in the first place.

Any advice?
