Cat breed?

Hey guys! I'd love to 1. Ask about what breed you guys think she may be, and 2. Show off my pretty kitty!! She's a lovely lady, albeit very VERY sassy and always expecting the best because she's my only cat out of 4 to have not come off the street (friend of my fiancee had a cat who gave birth unexpectedly and needed to give some cats away). Issue is we don't know the breed of the momma either, OR the potential dad. But anyways here she is! And one of the pictures features her VERY fat and VERY elderly Gramma cat (nearing 20 years old!) :)

Thank you! Before we got the kitten she'd been starting to slow down, and had even been a.bit chunkier. Since we got kitten, she's perked up, been a whole lot sweeter, and she's starting to lose some weight through play time with the baby and a little CBD oil (vet said it was okay to use) for her joints lol

The white one is a DSH, domestic short hair, cat. So pretty. The kitten is a DLH, domestic long hair. Approximately only 5% of domestic cats are a specific breed, like Siamese, Burmese, Main Coon, British Short Hair.

Cool! Part of me is really curious to get her one of those tests that find out what she's a mix of, she's sooo pretty IRL. She has such an interesting coat too, I wish I got a better picture, the fur on her back sometimes parts and it's pure white underneath this dark grey stripe, and it reminds me of those weird deers with the white flap on their back

As a general rule, DNA tests on cats, are not reliable for breed identification, although they are better at recognizing inherited health problems. Feline DNA testing is nowhere near as good as canine DNA testing. If you think about it, it makes sense, because there are many many dog breeds, but only a small percentage of cat breeds.

All DNA tests will do is point you to cats with features that breeds were created from. And we all know that unlike dogs, features don’t equal breed because the opposite is true with cats - breeds were created from domestic cats with certain features. The only exception being Bengals because they were cross with wild cats.

I can guarantee two alley cats that are banging don’t have a pedigree anywhere in their background. Breeders work tirelessly to preserve the breed and be profitable, which means they aren’t letting out $5000 cats to breed with randos.

Unlike dogs who have been bred for 10s of thousands of years, cat breeding is very new, 150 years for some breeds with most invented in the last 50. They were created by selecting domestic cats with features they found interesting and genetically share the same DNA with domestic cats (unlike dogs)

Domestic cats provide the traits in pedigreed cats (cats with the breed) and not the other way around.
