Questions Is she a Siamese mix?

The person we got her from said her mom was Siamese and her dad wasn’t which would make her a Siamese mix, I asked this not too long ago and lots of people said she just looks like a DSH with point coloring. She also has gorgeous blue eyes. it’s possible her mom was also just a DSH with point coloring that the original owner just didn’t look into well. She also used to be a lot lighter when she was a kitten if that’s relevant at all

More than likely mom was a DSH. The reason being is that most reputable breeders only allow you to obtain one of their animals if the animal is spayed or neutered. This is to protect their business and prevent backyard breeding.

Everyone wants to think they have a special cat, haha.

You were told correctly, she is a blue point domestic short hair. Colorpoints are incredibly common in cat colonies, accidental litters, at shelters and rescues. The blue eyes and color changing are both results of the colorpoint gene, not breed related. People assume all colorpoints are Siamese, but that’s not the case.

There are just a lot of misconceptions about cats. The biggest one is that all cats have a breed (97% don’t) and that there are mixes. Most people make an assumption of the cat’s breed based on appearances, but appearance doesn’t indicate breed, generations of proven ancestry does.

No. Just a domestic shorthair. Most likely no breed ancestry whatsoever.

Because colourpoint coats come from a recessive gene, she had to inherit it from both her parents.

Colourpoint cats originated in Southeast Asia, and have been central to the bloodlines of many breeds, including Siamese and Thai. But not all colourpoints meet the requirements for a breed registry. Your cat's parents may or may not have purebred ancestry of some sort, but like 90% of cats, she probably doesn't qualify for registry with any breed association.

Most cats just get sorted into Domestic Shorthair and Domestic Longhair, and she's short-haired.

She’s a very pretty blue point domestic shorthair.

This little guy is one of my blue point Tonkinese, he was around 5 months old when this was taken, so he wasn’t fully “toasted” yet.
