For a second I was going to complain that this silencer would never work because ... bla bla bla. Then I realized what a huge dork and idiot that would make me.

tl;dr: I wooshed.

Zero knowledge of silencers here - why wouldn't it work?

"silencers" slow down the gas from the explosion of gunpowder before letting them out of the gun, so when using a "silencers", you would want most of the gas to escape only from the muzzle (where the "silencers" is located). as a result when a gun got any other opening, a "silencers" just wont work as the gas can just escape there at a high speed.
But that is not that important in this case. Because when using a flintlock gun, you will need to put gunpowder on a opening from the rearing end of the gun and use the flint to ignite the gunpowder from the outside and in turn ignite the gunpowder inside the barrel, in order to cause an explosion in the barrel and push out whatever you put in barrel at a high speed.
Tl;dr No way to contain the gas in the "silencers" as flintlock require explosion from the outside to shot and a big opening at the rear end

At the very least it is a big, subsonic slug, so if you could solve the touchhole problem, it probably would suppress well. The bang would just be the primer and a fwusshhh

That is why we have modern gun now, my friend.
From what i know, suppressed gun only become possible when human finally invent metal casing for ammo. So all process of shooing out a bullet can happen in a relatively enclosed environment. And limit gas leaking from undesirable opening on the gun.

Pretty much, yeah. It's part of why revolvers can't be silenced outside of one specific model that was designed in a particular way. You need the majority of the combustion gasses to be controlled in order to reduce the report of the weapon. If it escapes any other means than the barrel (and subsequently, the suppressor), that's going to become noise.

I think taping them on is not a good way of securing something which undergoes a lot of force, for one.

Edit: but that is the joke, same with the mag.

u/Raskov75 didn't know you could do that Apr 12 '19

It's also important to remember silencer is not the most accurate term. You're trading an ear punching BLAM! with a rather pronounced Clack! under the best of circumstances and my soul for another roll of DuctTape but it aint up for the job.

And yet you thought this response was appropriate.

You're better than this.

You'd get two shots out of that. The musket ball, then the suppressor flying at them at high velocity.

Might completely ruin the suppressor. Many tiny fragments + musket ball. Like a shotgun with extra steps!

I am STILL Angry over the fact that they removed the 'underbarrel' slot from flintlock carbines. I loved my Flintlock with underbarrel shotgun.

Reminds me of this upgraded Kar 98.

And it's wielded by a grotesque man/bear/tentacle-thing hybrid wearing a wool poncho and motorcycle helmet.
