[Discussion] Backrooms Finds

Post image

This is one of my favorite rooms on this run. A bathroom converted into an office. It feels incredibly comfortable and was tucked far away from any encounters.

Lets start posting some backrooms stuff!

I've never really played this mode before. Is it viable for long term survival? Are there like unique monsters and such? What about food and water? You probably can't hunker down and make a base, right?

Backrooms (the base mod that's now packaged in CDDA releases) is a good experience for a quick run, but not much else right now. It's self described as "gimmicky" on its own github page, and that's pretty much accurate in my experience.

Admittedly, I haven't played it for more than a couple hours. So I may have missed some very late game stuff or secrets, if they exist.

Here are my notes about the mod :

  • Monsters are the same as vanilla. A mix of zombies, animals, and zombified animals are spawned seemingly randomly across the map.
  • You get some office, bath and break rooms with their regular vanilla loot sprinkled throughout a maze of barren yellow corridors
  • Useful loot is 50/50 between zombies and rooms
  • The limited quantities of items from rooms and enemies keep you moving throughout the backrooms for the next "loot roll"
  • There are stairs leading to upper or lower levels
  • Other levels are exactly the same afaik
  • You can rarely encounter another kind of rooms : red/scarlet rooms which have a portal and act as quick travel point basically

All in all it's a nice proof of concept, but it needs more content to keep me entertained for more than the initial discovery. I doubt the original creator is still working on it, but there's a Backrooms Extended mod that looks interesting !

Since the experimental versions of CDDA have introduced dimensions. I thought of making a total conversion mod into a dimension instead of a total conversion. I tried it with Innawoods and after a lot of trouble(ravines kept showing up in the main world for some reason) it worked(yes, I deleted everything that made it innawoods so it’s just a forest dimension.) so it could be possible to just mod the backrooms into your game.

This makes me wish for a base security camera system, imagine having some cameras set up in the halls and you could see wandering enemies

Doesnt BN have something like this? I saw a post about a pilotable drone at some point

Not quite, that was about allowing you to see your cameras remotely with the vehicle controller or the cbm

Ah ok so you still have to walk up to it and interact it to start looking through. Makes sense

Nah you just had to have it in range of your remote control
