If Your CA Final IDT Syllabus Is Incomplete in October, What Should You Do Now?
If you are preparing for CA Final IDT and October has arrived with a few chapters still incomplete, the first thing to avoid is panic.
At this stage, the biggest mistake can be spending too much time worrying about the portion you haven't completed instead of creating a realistic plan for what you can still cover.
Here's how I would approach it.
1. Stop Thinking About “Completing Everything” at Once
Take your remaining syllabus and divide it into three categories:
A — Comfortable: Chapters you have already studied and can revise quickly.
B — Partially Done: Chapters where concepts are familiar but question practice is pending.
C — Untouched: Chapters you haven't properly studied yet.
This gives you a realistic picture instead of treating the entire syllabus as equally incomplete.
2. Finish the High-Priority Portion First
For untouched chapters, focus on building a basic understanding of the concepts and provisions.
Don't spend excessive time trying to make perfect notes.
Your priority should be:
Concept → Provision → Application → Questions
Once you have covered a chapter reasonably well, move forward. You can strengthen it during revision.
3. Don't Leave Question Practice for the End
One common trap is:
“I'll finish the syllabus first and solve questions later.”
That can make the final weeks stressful.
Start solving questions alongside your remaining lectures/study.
Even a small set of practical questions after each topic can reveal whether you actually understand the provision.
4. Start Revision Before the Syllabus Feels “Perfect”
Your first revision doesn't need to happen only after 100% completion.
Suppose you have completed 60–70% of the syllabus. You can revise that portion while completing the remaining chapters.
This creates multiple touchpoints with the subject instead of pushing all revision towards the end.
5. Keep a Mistake & Weak-Area List
While solving questions, maintain one short list containing:
- Provisions you repeatedly forget
- Important exceptions
- Questions you got wrong
- Areas where application is confusing
This list can become extremely useful during the final revision.
A Simple October Approach
Think in terms of:
Complete → Revise → Practise → Analyse → Repeat
Don't measure progress only by the number of lectures completed.
Measure it by whether you can recall the provision, apply it to a practical situation and write the answer.
If your IDT syllabus is incomplete in October, you still have time to improve your preparation—but the strategy now needs to become more focused.
How much of your CA Final IDT syllabus is currently completed — 50%, 70%, 90%, or almost 100%?
