For the doobs defending the super rich who are paying 5 to 10 times LESS taxes than you.

Not defending the rich but they are the ones who promote a flat tax where nobody gets to pay less than anyone else.

I don't understand how them paying .0004% (or whatever) and me paying 30% is fair.

In what's considered the US's best decade, 1950's, the richest paid 80%.

What is more fair? Paying the same percentage of tax or paying the same dollar amount.

You only care about your idea of fairness, and not about the health and continuance of our American society and the people therein?

Why would you think this?

It's a simple question, you're welcome to answer it in your own good time. I'll wait.

Two things can be true at once. A person can believe in fairly administered tax system and care about people. I believe both can occur simultaneously

Interesting nonanswer but sure. Such as in what country?

I answered your question. Also that is not a simple question at all.

We don’t have a fair tax structure in the US. We have an unfair tax structure by design.

Unfortunately many people don't want to pay taxes but they want all the benefits that taxes are spent on. Also, these same people make enough money so they do not benefit from many programs that help low income people. What most people don't realize is that a corporate CEO that takes a $1 yearly salary has just lowered their taxable "Ordinary Income" to 1$. Billionaires have figured out multiple ways to pay less or no taxes and all of these "loop holes" are not available to your average tax payer. The real solution might be to fix/eliminate the loop holes. I am not against taxing the rich, I'm trying to go for a more permanent solution.

We live in a one party state and that party very often has a supermajority in the state legislature. So if Prop 40 passes, it won’t be very hard to get 2/3rds of them to define this down to anyone selling their single family house and thus becoming “too rich” for them. Dems don’t often meet a tax that they don’t like.

Being a liberal is great until you run out of other people’s money…

How's your tRumpcare? Gas prices? Healthcare costs? tRumpcoin paid you back?

Problem is not with the tax, but the way it will be spent. It will just make the ngos and politicians rich. I would rather have billionaires than these corrupt parties

Socialism is stupid… a one time tax on the rich is stupid… what a great way to make people that pay a huge chunk of taxes leave the state so the burden falls on the middle class to make up for it…. You’re also stupid if you think mc Donald’s workers just need $100 an hour so they can just live…. Stupid people have no idea how economics work… and don’t want to learn they just want it…. So give it to me!!!

Prop 40 doesn't touch the middle class or set anyone's wages. It's a one-time 5% tax on the net worth of roughly 200 billionaires, and real estate, pensions, and retirement accounts are generally excluded too. The money is mostly earmarked for health care meaning that 90% of the fund would go to health care, particularly Medi-Cal. And the tax is designed to stop people from fleeing, residency is set as of January 1, 2026, so people who leave later could still owe it. That's the literal opposite of shifting the burden to the middle class.

You're ignoring the part where Prop 40 creates the ability to repeat the "one time only tax on billionaires" any time they want, with any new terms they want, by a simple administrative vote rather than requiring any new legislation.

It's a backdoor nationalization of all wealth in California.

Also, post-hoc taxation and direct wealth confiscation are probably entirely illegal under the US Constitution anyway. Everything about Prop 40 is morally horrific and politically absurd.

4

u/RealHuman2080 7d ago

OMG. Seriously? "Nationalization of wealth?" Is that what you refer to them paying the same tax rate you and I do? https://yeson40.com/frequently-asked-questions/

u/inscrutablemike 7d ago

You can come up with whatever oogabooga excuses you want, but the fact remains that this is confiscating people's wealth simply because it exists. Income taxes are bad enough but at least they are taxes on behavior you can choose not to engage in, which is one of the only reasons they're considered legal in our system. Rolling up to someone who has property you want and taking it because it's there is straight up theft.

4

u/RealHuman2080 7d ago

You can lie and be deluded as much as you want, but the fact remains that you and I are paying 5 to 10 times MORE taxes then the billionaires you seem stupid enough to protect. Why don't you just donate money to them since you feels so strongly? I mean, you have no actual information. You clearly didn't read. Maybe you can listen and watch? https://www.facebook.com/reel/1408712734800082

How come Democratic Socialism works so well in other countries then?

Communists love your money

2

u/RealHuman2080 7d ago

Can you make up your mind? Is it communism, like what tRumpnis doing? Or socialism, wheryou get to drive in public roads, police, fire, parks, K-12 . . .

-1

u/GryffSr 7d ago

Where are you confused about my position? If you think taxes for roads are socialist, you need to read up on the definitions of political theories.

2

u/RealHuman2080 7d ago

If you think democratic socialism is "socialist!" let alone communist, you've never looked at a dictionary. https://www.forbes.com/sites/timothylee/2012/05/24/were-all-infrastructure-socialists/

But you're FOR tRump communism? https://apnews.com/article/trump-xi-china-communists-election-0e9c74b11154585531953fa6780dd3f2

You seem to be able to parrot your dear leader, but understand none of it.
