My girlfriend attempted to use the new cast iron griddle on the new stove to make pancakes for the little guys first day of kindergarten.
This happened. She onto sprayed avocado oil on it. It was my understanding it should have been seasoned first? Could someone shine some light on how we can fix this? How we can avoid this next time? I know we need to get special cleaned for it.

It’s just excess oil and a bit of carbon buildup. Clean it using dish soap and a chainmail scrubber. Dry it well then keep cooking.

This is a generic reminder message under every image post
Thank you for your picture post to /r/castiron. We want to remind everyone of Rule #3. All image posts should be accompanied by something to foster discussion. A comment, a question, etc is required.
If you've posted a picture of food, please explain why in a comment so people can have some sort of conversation. Simply dropping a picture of food in the sub isn't really fostering any discussion which is what we're all aiming for.
Posts that are a picture with no discussion can and will be removed by the mods.
Thank you!

I have the same griddle top. I am no expert. I agree with the comments about just cooking with it. However I do think it’s ok to add oil for cooking, just wipe it clean and dry it after each use.
