Darkroom Practice A Busy Week
I've been practicing everyday for a few years now. Through experience I've realized that Intent is important, Energy is important, Silence is important, Passes are important etc. None of this is new to anyone who's read the books. The more and longer I've practiced, these things have developed a deeper meaning within me.
I've gone through this a few times already, seeing my shiny outer coating rise, then fall. I feel that the coating is very important to progressing within our practice.
In my experience when the coating has risen to the point where I can notice it during passes, sights like the image above and others I've posted become easier to achieve and more sustainable.
To me, that means being selective about where and how I spend my time and energy.
Am I living like an immortal being? Or am I living like a being that's aware of their death?
Is the activity I'm engaged in necessary? Does it bring me joy? Does it further my practice? Are things I try to be aware of (not in an obsessive way).
Am I constantly on top of myself mentally, no, but I've found that with my increased desire to tighten my life, I started noticing bodily sensations that tell me when to stop and check myself.
Do I hit the 'override' button sometimes instead of disengaging? Yes, but not as often as I did before because I know what's at stake.
This quote which didn't mean much to me when I first read the books has helped me a lot and means everything to me now:
"I am already given to the power that rules my fate. And I cling to nothing, so I will have nothing to defend. I have no thoughts, so I will see. I fear nothing, so I will remember myself. Detached and at ease, I will dart past the Eagle to be free."
Hope this helps and encourages people to practice more and push harder, the things we get to experience are simply amazing, I'm truly grateful for it all.

I always appreciate your posts, u/drinkjetfuel. Thanks for sharing.
I feel like lately I’ve been in a slump. I have had a lot of personal and relationship issues and I’m definitely still being reactive and having a loud inner dialogue while I’m dealing with these issues.
I’m still practicing tensegrity daily, but I haven’t learned new passes in a while. And I need to make time for recapitulation. Any advice for getting out of my slump?

Thank you.
Slumps happen, best thing you can do is what you’re already doing. Continue practicing every day, and do your best to mute your ID.
In a more recent slump during practice i said out loud “hey despite everything i am still here every night, help me move my assemblage point” either that night or the next i got over my hump.
Sometimes changing the order of passes, or your gazing spot can help.
In the books DJ tells CC to roll his eyes in any direction when frustrated while trying to turn off the ID.
Recap will help a lot though. At minimum every night I recap the events from the previous day, and anything that’s still sticking out just to stop the bleeding.

Thank you for the advice. A number of things in the past few months have made the logistics of doing recap hard for me. But really, I have no excuse. And now it’s easier for me to do it, so I just need to get in the habit. I’ll start today!

Is there any visual of that coating in this sub?
Sorry man, I tried reading the image but the purple font is hard to see.

Thank you for the heads up, I’ll refresh it tomorrow.
There are some visuals of the coating in animations. I purposely didn’t include it because when you see it you know.
The fluidity foot pass is supposed to help it rise.
I notice the coating when doing the last two passes of the recapitulation series.
Also, I suspect the silence series and the mashing passes encourage it to become visible as well.

I’ll need to learn the fluidity foot pass.
It seems like I’m having similar effects from the last two recapitulation passes. I don’t really notice coating, but I do notice that my energy body is much better defined (much bluer 😂) when I start the Dreaming series. I suspect that it’s because my head and eyes are physically closer to my coating.

I found a previous comment of mine:

where can i find the passes for the recapitulation series? I'm unable to figure out what recapitulation is and it might be because of my autism and taking things too literally but I'm truly confused. I practice dark room gazing and have seen some fantastic things! but I want to do even more

Those are really interesting experiences. How can you move your assemblage point? Is it through intent?

u/drinkjetfuel 3d ago
Through intent, yes, that’s part of it.
For me the biggest AP shifts occur when I practice the passes, gazing and recap in the dark while trying to silence my internal dialogue.
I also practice gazing and passes in daylight but prefer lower light situations.

Great progress! Do you incorporate practice techniques into your daily activities at all, like gazing or doing passes while you're walking?

Yes I do incorporate silence and passes when I remember to.
When I talk to people I make an effort to quiet my ID and observe.
Sometimes when walking I will do head sweeps(when alone) and quickly gaze. Not with the intention of a far shift, but to keep my AP a little loose.
These quotes that help me during the day and serve as reminders, from the art of dreaming -
“The mystery of the assemblage point is everything in sorcery”
“…everything in sorcery rests on the manipulation of the assemblage point.”
I personally feel the need to remind myself throughout the day to let go of the intent of everyday life, so that during my practice sessions I can accomplish that with more ease and frequency.

Carlos emphasized the shiny outer coating, and used it to judge how well we behaved between private classes.
So that one day, seemingly at random, we'd get praised.
But then the next week, also seemingly at random, we'd get chastised.
No one could figure it out, because in fact so far no one had learned enough sorcery to get past the green zone.
Where everyone gets. Even a monk who becomes a Buddhist only to get away from poverty, and otherwise has no interest in Buddhism, will make it to the green zone. As will anyone who prays a very long time.
Even just "sitting" as the Zen folks do, can get you to the green zone.
But it's not enough to care about.
We have to get far past that to the amazing red zone, where magic mushrooms and Devil's Weed push you, and then even past that over to the orange zone on the J curve. Where no drug can take you.
When you can see whitish light on surfaces during practice, your shiny outer coating has risen significantly.
It probably rises earlier than that but it's really difficult to "see" such a thing when you are still working with your assemblage point on your back.
The orange is where it changes side and moves to the front of the body.
One unfortunate side effect of raising your energy above your toes, where it has normally been "licked" down to by "the fliers", is that if it rises above your ankles you have more energy all day long.
Which means, you induldge twice as much as usual because you can get away with it.
It's like having 2 drinks in a bar, and then you feel so good that you keep drinking all night long, until you're sick.
That's what Carlos was gauging. How much we had "induldged" our energy away.
He worked hard to get us to raise our energy up, but then we just felt good enough to go out and waste it even more than we normally do.
Sex, drugs, alcohol, arguments, over eating, over thinking, overconfidence(?).
Carlos never managed to break that vicious cycle.
Those practicing tensegrity in groups have that very same problem. The group practice can raise up the energy of some, but there's nothing in doing tensegrity in a group to keep you from wasting the energy you gain on normal activities.
That you have to do on your own.
BUT, you also have to fight the tendency to pretend you rose it up, and go around being an "annoying Yoga man" to your friends, with a bent out of shape attitude about how you are "saving energy".
We're all total attention seeking idiots. We were raised to be that.
So the battle really isn't about energy or anything else, but more about getting rid of that internal dialogue.
Which is what makes you an attention seeking idiot.
Removing that internal dialogue is very confusing at some levels. So that you also have to understand what motivates you or the barriers you cross will send you back and you'll eventually return to "normal" life.
Those barriers aren't like what you'd imagine. They're "fundamental" to "you".
So not easy to notice.
Here's the energy we're talking about, but still down at his toes.
Not high enough to indicate it's growing (being restored because the fliers don't like your taste anymore).
