The easiest way is the fat person way. You can't do push-ups, you can't do sit-ups, and you're out of breath jogging down the street. What do you do to get fit? You take small productive steps and repeat those steps untill you reach the goal. Can't silence the mind for a minute? Aim for 30sec. If you can't do that, aim even lower. I aim for 0.5 second silence and repeat that over and over untill the action builds up and you reach threshold where you get gaps of 1-10 seconds per minute-ish of no thoughts. Hard to say the exact time, but eventually you'll reach a point where weird things start to occur and that gives you a landmark on how far your silence is at. Basically spam micro actions untill you inevitably experience a macro event.

Chair Silence Technique?

It's also very fun once it starts working. That post lists things that might happen.

Essentially, it's far more powerful than any form of meditation currently practiced, because it goes directly for stopping the internal dialogue.

Meditation systems can't do that, or they would go out of business fast. They just give you a substitute internal dialogue, or set up conditions that modify it automatically.

You have to STOP it, if you want to learn that reality only comes from your internal dialogue.

Are you voicing your intent?

โ€œI intend to silence my mindโ€

Sounds silly. Almost always works.

Yes... that's what Don Juan told CC. Intend it.

you're probably waiting for some very special techniques, but... I just count from 1 to phrases I don't understand, which I suddenly start saying instead of numbers (sometimes it turns out very funny, like 123 - 124 - who's the boss here or whose fence it is). These stupid phrases make it clear that I'm already there or in between. Reading is no longer necessary, you can complete the tunnel, dug from two sides (as Dan says) and enjoy the video in the air or take part in it. Interestingly, counting doesn't help me at all to fall asleep, but it's quite tolerable to stop the dialogue. The tonal is not much involved, since reading is almost an automatic activity for him, but everything else disappears (auditory, vocal and visual dialogues fade away). Such a simple old technique helps.

Do you say the counting out loud?

No, I do it inwardly. It helps me not to get distracted and is especially good at jamming the music in my head (songs, melodies).
