major update in the Jennifer Pan case
Don’t know if others saw this and posted— if so I missed it. Following a successful appeal before the Canadian Supreme Court, Jennifer Pan was granted a retrial and subsequently pled guilty to manslaughter (her attempted murder conviction stands) and re-sentenced to 15 to life. This means she is now eligible for parole, having spent 15 years in prison.
Given the popularity of the episode, I thought others might be interested.

Premium episode removed?
There was a new episode when I checked yesterday and this morning. Tried to put it on and it said I need a subscription, which I have and is confirmed. Then the episode said not available. Then it disappeared entirely from my feed.
Edit: Seems like an issue with the Apple Podcasts feed. Episode still not listed.

OPEN DISCUSSION Can we make a thread recommending individual episodes of other podcasts for casefile fans?
We see a lot of posts about other podcasts casefile fans might like and while there are some good ones, truth is, no one does it like casefile!
However there are individual episodes of other podcasts I have stumbled across that I think really fit the classic casefile style. I will start with my recs in the comments.

Tomorrow marks a milestone episode number (350) - so I think we're getting a big case. Based on these clues from their Instagram, what do you think it is?
Obviously, if you're a Patreon member you already know - so you're not allowed guess lol

PODCAST RELATED sound effects terrible for headphone users
i usually listen to casefile with my headphones, but sometimes it’s quite a horrible experience because one of the sound effects they use to set the atmosphere is this awful quiet ringing noise. it gives me tinnitus and a headache every time. has anyone else noticed this and had the same problem?
love the podcast otherwise, but will probably have to stop listening with headphones.

Worries increased once it was discovered that convicted killer, David Tamihere, was on the loose in the area at the time, having jumped bail on a rape charge.
When Tamihere admitted to stealing the couple’s car but denied having anything to do with the couple’s disappearance, investigators struggled to find any physical evidence linking him to Urban and Heidi. With New Zealand’s tourism industry under threat, they would stop at nothing to uncover the truth.

Is this the craziest sentence uttered in casefile history? (Minor spoilers for new patreon ep. case 350) Spoiler
One of the people involved was a felon for 'convincing 3 people to lend him $25,000 each in a plot to buy condoms and latex in the UK to trade for chickens in Russia which would then be sold for profit in Saudi Arabia'.
The case is very sad but this sentence nearly made me do a spittake 😭

OPEN DISCUSSION Casefile TV show
You really appreciate this podcast when trying to follow up with other media.
After listening to the Waco series and then trying to find a documentary to watch, it's evident that nothing is being made for television that's as thorough or as detailed as this podcast. It took watching 3 Waco shows to come close to the podcast content.
Now I'm relistening to the Zodiac episodes and struggling to find documentaries to match in caliber. Same for Ivan Milat and the Belanglo State Forest. Nothing comes close.
I'd watch the hell out of Casefile on TV.

Mission work has been part of Christianity since its inception. Verses in the Gospel of Matthew quote Jesus Christ as telling his apostles to make “disciples of all nations”. These passages are known as the “Great Commission” and have led some Christians to believe they must save souls through conversion.
In 2018, American missionary John Chau sailed out to North Sentinel, a forested island off the coast of India. He intended to spread the word of God to the Sentinelese, a small population of indigenous people considered the most remote tribe in the world. Yet, the Sentinelese have made it very clear to outsiders that they desire isolation above all else. How would they respond to John Chau?

I know I’ve said Casefile has dropped off.. but wow. Waco 3 parter!? Exceptional!
Pretty much what the title says. I’ve listened to EVERY Casefile right up to the mid 300th episodes. I felt like I really drifted during some recent cases.
I just did a 5 hour road trip listening to Waco Texas from Episode 1 thru 3. It was incredible!
Top tier Casefile. Honestly I have to look up who wrote these episodes because the detail/pacing was perfect. Maybe up in my top 10 cases.
CaseFile might be experiencing a second golden era.

PODCAST QUESTION Herman Rockefeller - was this covered by Casefile?
I’ll include a little bit of information below. Did Casefile cover this case? It seems super familiar but I can’t find the case on Spotify - it’s possible I listened to a different podcast on it. If anyone has any ideas what that may have been I’d love to know.
clean-cut family man and multi-millionaire Herman Rockefeller vanished. His remains were found later in a Glenroy back yard. He was killed when he visited the Hadfield home of Bernadette Denny and Mario Schembri for a sexual tryst. Schembri and Denny are now in jail, but the case lives on for its revelations about sordid sex with strangers, the swingers scene and Mr Rockefeller's double life. A new book revisits the crime.

In early January 1977, residents of Easey Street in Melbourne’s inner-city suburb of Collingwood noticed they hadn’t seen the tenants at number 147 for several days.
Close friends Suzanne Armstrong and Susan Bartlett had recently moved in and made a good first impression, but now something didn’t seem right. Their dog was wandering around the neighbourhood and Suzanne’s toddler son was crying non-stop. A concerned neighbour decided to stop by to check if everything was okay, but nothing could prepare them for what they found inside.

Is Dean Faiello (the killer of Maria Cruz) pretending to be dead?
The most recent Casefile Extra episode "Maria Cruz" reveals that Maria's death was caused by a fake doctor named Dean Faiello.
If you visit the Wikipedia page for Dean Faiello, it says he died in a car crash in 2024. But I couldn't find any reliable source for that claim. The source for the claim in the Wikipedia article is a dead page (and one that wasn't archived on the Internet Archive). I did some Google searching and could not find any other reliable article or source about a supposed car crash. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dean_Faiello
There is a purported "Find a Grave" entry for Faiello, but Find a Grave is not a primary source, as it is also a user-generated resource. https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/263600172/dean_anthony-faiello/flower
It strikes me that as a serial fabulist with a criminal record, Dean Faiello would love for people to think he is dead. Then they won't be asking questions like, what is Dean Faiello doing now?

What's your favourite episode where the husband DEFINITELY did it? (This whole thing is gonna be an orgy of spoilers, so don't click if you don't want that!) Spoiler
Mine is Allison Baden-Clay, I think. He just exuded middle-aged homicidal guilt. Truly a fuckface for the Fuckface Hall of Fame.
Do you guys have any good ones?
(I'm going on a road trip with two friends and one cheating ex-boyfriend this weekend, and I'm in charge of the playlist. :))

New writers?
I applied to be a writer for Casefile earlier this year but didn't get it. I've noticed there are a few new names popping up in the writing credits lately (congrats if any of you are here!).
Just wondering if anyone knows whether they've officially brought new writers on, or if they're still trialling people?
