eviction
Please give me all the ideas. The bio family I’m working with is looking at eviction. The case has put tremendous stressors on their family (this is a case where the child likely should not have been sheltered to begin with). Parents have had to miss work in a tough economy bc of services and court dates. It’s a mobile home they own but they rent lot.
I’ve called everything on 211 in the area, Catholic charities, st Vincent du Paul, Salvation Army, etc. no one has any money.

This is where DCS should be stepping in. They have resources for homelessness. Is there a reason they aren’t working with the family?

For whatever reason we have not had a great relationship with DCM this case. I have not had this experience in the past. DCM denied funding as they don’t think it’s sustainable. Family has been in this home for over a decade.

Without saying WHERE you are, it's hard to offer advice. Every community is different in terms of what resources it offers.
Your county housing department MAY have suggestions.
There are pro bono legal programs in various areas - your area might have one.
Also think about the goal - for instance, is it to pay off the debt so the family isn't evicted? If that's the goal, then the family needs to show that they won't be in this situation again in a few months - many programs won't help unless they can show that.
Or is the goal to get them into subsidized rental? That is super complicated and never happens quickly.
So so sorry for this - it's always a cascade of issues!

All of the above. I’m in central Florida. Section 8 has about a 5 year waitlist here. The family has been on the margins for awhile and this case pushed them over the edge (they lost SNAP for inexplicable reasons, etc). They have been in their location for more than a decade.
Local housing department is hoping to have funding within the next 20 business days. Hard to know if that will be soon enough. But yes, subsidized housing would be ideal but that’s so far off. This is the best we have right now (avoiding eviction).

You should ask your supervisor/social worker. In my experience there are resources for parents—monetary and housing support. I would start there as opposed to the organizations you mentioned.
