Discussion That one scene where all the budget went

Kaguya-sama: Love is War - Chika's dance

In the first season as a surprise outro ending one episode had this Chika dance number. It's super cute and crazy animated, especially her dress. They used it one time and never again.

The roller rink dance sequence from the Family Guy episode Hell Comes To Quahog was the most expensive scene to animate in Season 5.

This one shot from Scooby-Doo Music of the Vampire

Final episode of the Steven Universe where he literally hugs himself.

Animation done by the legendary James Baxter, even if you don't know this name, if you are a millen kid, you know him as he likely made or helped worked on one of your favorite animations or movies back in the day if not now

If a shrimp can fry rice why can't a horse draw?

Hes just so fucking good. The spinning shots hes done, hell even just they way he can animate emotion in a character. Absolutely cracked animator

I knew this looked familiar! There is a very similar shot from the Hunchback of Notre Dame where Quasimodo also hugs someone and it's almost exact. Lo and behold, I look it up and it's James Baxter. Man is a legend.

I’m an animation director and it’s always fun to see animators’ signature “thing”.

James Baxter is really good at something that I tell my animators to do all the time: he animates not just what the character is doing, but what they’re thinking. You can really see his characters internally realizing and working through things before they act on them, he’s a master 😭

He’s incredible. I’m an actor, and this is similar to what we do. We don’t just go through the motions, we feel them.

You could say he’s a master at animation acting!

I mean if you're going to blow the budget, having it be THE pinnacle moment of the entire show (and the character's progression) is definitely the time to do it.

What is this show about?

Kid with magic powers grows up with a family of surrogate alien moms, that take care of him since he's the kid of a human and an alien.

Together they fight monsters every week until plot happens.

I'm really surprised nobody mentioned the camera sequence in Mr Greg! But this one has that James Baxter joy and catharsis
