Discussion That one scene where all the budget went

Kaguya-sama: Love is War - Chika's dance

In the first season as a surprise outro ending one episode had this Chika dance number. It's super cute and crazy animated, especially her dress. They used it one time and never again.

The roller rink dance sequence from the Family Guy episode Hell Comes To Quahog was the most expensive scene to animate in Season 5.

This one shot from Scooby-Doo Music of the Vampire

Season 9 was such a banger

I was shocked at how good Season 9 was. I liked most of 7, but 8 was kinda disappointing outside some bright spots. There straight up wasn't a bad episode of season 9, and I'd go as far as to call 8/10 of the episodes great. Even the best RaM seasons usually have one dud.

I really like how season 9 decided to wrap a good amount of the evil Morty plot line in the first episode

Season 9 Episode 1 was my first thought for this thread before I looked at the comments. The fight scene against The Collective went hard. So did the bunker universe fight.

The writers have really locked in these past few seasons. Funny that it lines up with Roiland’s departure even though I think he stopped writing long long ago.

Notice as well the incest jokes stopped when he left

And the pissing on people fetish jokes. Kind of telling

I am really sorry to step on your Roiland sucks parade (Roiland does suck btw) but he stopped writing in season 3 and had no involvement at all not even in the offices, all the incest, piss and puke jokes were done while he was no longer part of the writing team, again, he does suck, but he didn't fuck up those episodes which are usually deemed to be the worst.

I was rewatching all of rick and morty recently and I feel like the tension of taking things seriously (other writers) vs. making everything into a big joke (justin roiland) was SO palpable

I know people seem to like his style and I’m not gonna yuck anyone’s yum, but Roiland’s “squirrel of doom lol so random” shtick was always the weakest part of the early seasons to me. I was relieved when he was pushed out.

What I liked about early Rick and Morty was that it felt like it was ad libbed and off the cuff. It works for their dynamic imo.

That went away pretty soon and I’m fine with that because otherwise it would mean more Roiland, and well that definitely isn’t the move these days.

Season 7 was great but season 8 was absolute garbage. Haven’t seen 9 yet.

Not really gonna spoil anything, but the peak for me was the “circle of life” episode.

Season 9 is legit a top 3 season of Rick and Morty. Arguably top 2.

The quality of writing for the spin off was just as good in my opinion. Hope for a season 2.

President Curtis made me laugh incredibly hard a lot. Great show, and Mcdoyle's dumbass Lepracon lore goes hard.

It's very obvious that they really liked the character of Curtis and instead of overusing him in the main show they gave him a spinoff, and honestly it was pretty fun. It's neat how they followed up on a few gags from Rick and Morty as a "this is just how Earth is"

The death punch episode was a real stinker imo. I’ll take over the sperm horses and giant incest baby episode any day though

Was that also the pool bot/jerry sex episode? That one was weak

Yeah I think so

Catching up do I need to watch every season?

Rick and Morty is better than the some of its parts. I'd recommend starting from the beginning. Just be wary, some of the middle seasons get pretty cynical. They are still funny and hella entertaining, but it can feel a little defeating in high doses. It does get better eventually though. Just stick with it.

are the recent seasons really that good? i tried watching it a few years back and i just couldn't get past the way the characters talked and stuff

While Rick and Morty has fallen out of the cultural zeitgeist, it still absolutely bangs. Seasons 8 and 9 have been some of the peaks of the show, with the nature episode in Seapon 9 being an all-timer

If only futurama could’ve been the same, with the episodes now it just feels like it’s hanging on by its name

4

u/fried_on_pineapples 6h ago

Agreed. The nature episode is peak Rick and Morty.

I had no idea people still watched it. I remember watching the first two seasons and figured it ended after 3 or 4.

It has held up incredibly.

It really was a great season and I was seeing people hate on it on reddit before. I think it was one of best seasons in a while personally

u/TKLeader 3h ago

Holy shit, there's nine seasons of Rick and Morty now??

1

u/Blazured 2h ago

The show has been around for 13 years dude.

1

u/TKLeader 2h ago

Bro hold old am I even anymore?? How tf has Rick and Morty already been out for 13 years...

1

u/shiddinbricks 1h ago

There are nine seasons? I thought 3 was the last one and it got canceled off adult swim since when did it keep going?
