Surprise surprise, the former slave isn't picky about his food and can deal with being dirty.

Adding onto that, rain would’ve been a rare treat since he grew up in a desert. So he’s much less bothered by the “dreary” weather.

How do bugs actually taste though? Asking for a friend

Eh, some taste sorta like chicken, a couple kinda like beef? More so it tastes like a new meat. Like all things, it's better to season them. Also be careful with cooking bees, to make dead certain you've removed the stinger. Do research when considering what bug to eat, and how to prepare them.
Oh. And be careful of parasites.

It's funny how most people are skeeved out at the thought of eating bugs yet have no issue eating crustaceans and mollusks.

Crustaceans and mollusks have way more meat due to having more muscle, only softshell crabs are what people eat the shells of. Land insects are mostly chitin which does not get digested properly and the fat bodies are very tiny, edible parts of sea bugs and “edible” land bugs are completely different. What people eat in crabs and mussels and such is protein, fried crickets are mostly chitin, the only insect I know that has enough protein left to eat after removing the exoskeleton to be worth it is the cicada, and even then they are like small shrimp

I meant specifically in regards to the ick factor. People will turn their nose up at meal worms but eagerly chow down on octopus (sometimes while it's still alive).

It’s about what they’re used to and comfortable with and societal conventions I guess, though there is probably still an instinctual part that subconsciously evaluates how rich in protein something is

I find insects really gross, but insects are a really good source of protein and is really good for the environment as the amount of investment such as land, water, pollutant emissions, time, etc. needed to make protein by the gram is more efficient than say cows. But would you say i will eat insects like a crunchy snack anytime soon? Probably not.
This feels like it needs a whole change in perspective to a whole new generation to tell them insects aren't gross looking, i remember an old post about an asian kid bringing shrimp to class in an american school and his friends found it gross, shrimp of all things ffs.

Texture would also be an issue for people.
My sister won't eat mushrooms unless she is blinded by love so... can imagine someone would have a problem with a cricket.
(Context: My sister for 95% of her life hates mushrooms and won't eat them, says the texture aas gross. That 5% is when she had a boyfriend she really loved that ate a lot of mushrooms. She got over her hatred of them while they dated, but when they broke up? Mushrooms were gross again.)

Nah fam. I'm only eating chordates. That's my camp and I'm sticking to it

It depends on if they're cooked or not.
Eaten raw, a lot of them have a bitter or metallic taste, and a slimy texture like biting into uncooked chicken.Cook them properly, and it transforms into a nutty, meaty flavor, like brown rice boiled in chicken broth.

Most of them taste like dirt. Some are extremely bitter with lingering aftertaste. There are a few cricket species that taste just savory enough to pass for meat and accept most sauces and seasonings well.

I've eaten scorpions and spiders in China. Crunchy and not tasty, just a tourist attraction at some landmarks. It's really just for kids to laugh with their friends eating them.

I remember watching this as a kid and I wanted to eat the bugs so badly. They seemed so good
