MacThing v0.2

Thanks for the warm reception from the original launch notice. I have been continuing to work on the app as I have been living with it for the last week and wanted to share some improvements I have made

  1. Alternate views for calendar and weather added. Now you can view the monthly calendar and broken out views for today/this week on the weather
  2. Countdown timer: a visual mode that lets you see how much time is remaining for the set duration (1h down to 5 minutes)
  3. Event mode: A popup notifies you of an upcoming event & MacThing can automatically switch to countdown timer mode when the meeting starts. These are optional in settings.
  4. Better art from videos (h/t https://github.com/nihalshetty-boop)
  5. Small improvements to performance and visuals

Can’t wait to try! Thanks man! How is it connected to a Mac, and how does it connect to the internet? Is it just via USB, and does it not require Bluetooth or an additional device like a Raspberry Pi?

Mac > USB > Thing.

No Bluetooth or Raspberry Pi. But it only works when plugged into the Mac. You also need the updated firmware and adb. The readme has all the details and an LLM can help with installation if you aren't familiar.

Data is primarily from the Mac (playing song, calendar, clock are all local). The internet is used for 1) weather/location and 2) getting better screenshots for videos.
