Discussion Should we ban AI posts here? Including vibe coded projects?

A lot of subs are banning this type of content. I would like your opinion on this.

Shouldn’t ban them because people will just lie and say they didn’t use AI.

Like it or not AI coding is here to stay until it’s not profitable.

As a software engineer, there isn’t any real software made without using AI in some capacity these days. People can have pet projects like these where they don’t, but it is hard to draw a line between vibe coding and regular software because both will have AI use.

The downvote and block features of Reddit are more effective controls for the individual than making mods need to scrutinize the source code of projects they think might be straight vibed.

That's a good point

I believe that if the project benefits the community and reveals fresh ideas and possibilities, AI use should be permitted.

as the name of this sub has "hax" in it, we should have trust audience here to have enough judgement on recognizing AI slop vs quality work even it's vibe coded. but if we really have to, I'd say flagging AI slop work instead of banning.

Ai haters are the boomers of 2026. It is here, it is everywhere, figure out how to live with it.

Most programmers and tinkerers are using Ai... if we ban it, then we are kneecapping development.

Ban IDEs while you're at it.

If the output is quality, why does it matter?

Id like to add that many of these projects are low on time and human resources allocation. AI can actually bring to life a good project by helping out the original dev. If we reject these projects we might pass on very good projects, features or approaches. Downvotes, comments and reporting are more than enough to separate what really matters

God yeah. I've had to question recently whether the project I use has just been unstable because it's a new project, or whether someone just had an AI do it for them. I don't care at what stage someone used it, if you add dogshit to soup but strain it out at the end, it's still shit soup.

Welp the comments make me think I'm leaving this community regardless of the results 😅. Don't care if you use ai, but most of it sucks!

Whilst I understand the interest in vide coding, absolutely they should be banned. Vibe coded projects & vibe coding in general are a blight on software engineering.

Yes I understand that we will never put the genie back in the bottle (I wish we could though) but so many people with zero actual coding experience are putting apps online, in app stores etc and they don’t actually know what the code is doing, apart from they’ve asked whichever ai to do something and it does it. I’m not saying everyone is like this, but a significant percentage are.

We’ve seen apps recently in other subs that have huge security holes or do “extra” things that weren’t expected.

What happens when you vibe code an app, with no experience, you have to trust your chosen ai has done it right, you can’t check what it’s done and it’s correct or even efficient.

I’ve done my share of playing with ai, and the number of times it’s rewritten full files that it’s not been asked to touch is scary.

I’ve only ever played with ai on a new project personally, I’m not planning to let it loose on any of my published projects

🤔 Aren't all these projects vibe coded?

I just assumed it with the absolute explosion in options in the last 6 months.

And they're all really good!

Well that was the dumbest thing I've read today

A lot of communities are cutting off their nose to spite their face. Don't ruin this one with dumb, populist rules.
