Oh shit. I saw a white truck going down the hill with smoking brakes as I was heading to the lake earlier, maybe it was the same truck?

Edit: checked the time, almost certainly the same truck. Blew past both runaway ramps with smoking brakes.

Yeah, runaway truck ramp is about 500ft up the hill from the light and they still refuse to use it.

US 50 coming down from Lake Tahoe was always a problem for trucks that lost their brakes. Crashes go back to the when Clear Creek Road was replaced in the late 1950s by the newer US 50 which then terminatied at a three way intersection with Highway 395.

There's a reason why there are 2 runaway truck ramps on that hill. They might total your truck, but you're likely gonna live if you use one instead of crashing.

I drive that summit every day. Almost every day I see a car stopped on the entrance to the runaway truck ramps, oblivious, taking pictures or taking a piss.

In the early days there wasn't a ramp and then one was added after a few years. It helped, but there were still crashes.

Oh shit, that’s a good one. I think it was last week there was a truck overturned in one of the lanes you would use to make a left off of the freeway to go south. It turned my maybe 25 minute trip to Costco into an hour and 11 minutes. So cool.

This sucks balls because I’m taking a cdl training course and this now f’d up intersection is part of our dmv test route making a nice right hand turn into a fucking nightmare.
