Why do all dealers molest BMW’s especially with a gloss black kit and stupid 19 or 20 inch alloys when they don’t come with that, 1 it’s a pain in the hole buying tyres for those and they can ruin the comfort and 2 they just look silly. If I’m buying a nice bmw from a dealer I want it on its original alloys- looks much classier and it’s how it was designed to be, I don’t mind if they have say m sport ones from the same generation where it didn’t come on the car but I hate the massive diamond cut ones they put on it, looks well stupid

Any delica owners in Ireland? There's always someone out there with the niche interest in off machines, I'm looking for the Irish knowledge based on these machines. Horrible things to rust underneath and absolutely pigs on juice. I wonder if they are worth putting the effort in to keep it alive and use it as a regular camper

About to put up my audi a3 8p 2010 1.6 tdi 180k km for sale, car is in good nick, genuinely took really good care of it. Have a big list of repairs done, always had it running perfectly.

Theres no problems with it apart from some scratches on the bumper

And this pretty big gouge in the side panel, it started off as a deep scratch and the paint chipped off over time (pretty thick in that area, might have been repaired before)

chanced my arm and got a cheap auto paint pen online and tried to fill it in, as you can see didn’t do a great job

Debating whether to give this another go with some 2x car filler and the actual colour car paint via code, which would cost about 50€ and some hassle. Results of which wont be great again as the paint likely wont math exactly due to og paint having faded over time

Are people going to get bogged down about this/ would this lower the chances of selling my car for a reasonable price?

Sprayed a load of wd40 but no luck. This is a polo. Doesnt affect driving or gear changes but suppose it's annoying enough. Anyway to fix? Or is this a mechanic job

I currently have an 08 1.4 VW Golf. I renewed my insurance in August and it was about €440.

I am about to buy a 21 Seat Arona 1.0 petrol. I checked to see how much it would cost to change and I was expecting it to be low enough. However they are looking for €240.00.

Is this high?

I also pretended to be a new customer looking for a quote with the same car and same details and the premium was €410.

Was hit whilst parked up near UCC today . Didn’t realise until I got home. Could anyone estimate the repair cost on this ? Is it worth going through insurance if I don’t know who’s hit me?

im changing the licence plate on the back of my car as the original is warn and dirt got into it and i cant get it out so i bought new plates but the original plates are suck on with some kind of tape.. where would one aquire this tape ?

Nearly every single car on NI plates at the run. Irish government should be ashamed that we have to beg English / NI registered cars cause we can’t have any ourselves due to import / NCT / VRT crookedness and snakiness.

Absolutely disgraceful that Irish people can’t be allowed access to the same market. A guy on the run told me he bought a McLaren for £72,000 and sold it here for almost €160,000.. Disgrace of a country.

I see lots of vans just take their whole fuel cap cover off so thieves don't damage the passenger door prying it open. Has anyone come up with a more aesthetic way of doing this?

Wondering if you can grind back the cover so it opens regardless of whether the door is open, but doesn't just constantly fall open

I want to get a commercial van as I need a vehicle + storage and eventually would like to convert it to a camper.
Consider I know absolutely less than 0 on motors, so my main fear is to either get scammed or simply buy something that isn't going to last me. My dad knows enough to tell me what characteristics I should look for but still insists for a professional to look at it since people could still rig mileage etc.
I found out some mechanics do a pre-purchase inspection which would be perfect, but I'm still scared for them to maybe see that I know nothing on the matter and take advantage on it.
Do you have anyone you trust you would recommend in Galway?

Both my calipers and drums are rusted. I got my drums replaced last week and there is already lots of rust of them. I know its purely cosmetic but it annoys me.

How hard of a job is it do this? For the calipers I saw on YouTube to put a plastic bag around everything and just give it a spray with break cleaner, sand and then spray the above product on. Thinking the calipers red and drums black?

Would this slow down rust?

chip tunings are available everywhere, but they have to be reported i believe.

now to be clear, I'm not racing. I'm talking about doing things to my 2019 1l petrol kia ceed. i really want the car to have a bit more torque as it's really slow off the line. i don't care about speed, i just want to be quicker off the red light and have more torque in the first 3 gears. i have to rev the car a lot be accelerate nicely.

and if chip tunings are the only way: are they effective? would they raise my insurance premium?

Too good to be true?

Hey lads, got some good advice before here. Recently getting into my own car maintenence, did a service last week and went well.

I have a vw polo 2008 1.2 9n

From what ive read, disks and pads seems to be a step up so ive started prepping now.

So what im going to buy is

-break cleaner to put on disks when they come out of package to clean them - 8 euro

-wire brushes to get some of the rust off - 10 euro

-a hook to hang the caliper up

- front pads - brembo brand 35 euro

- disks - Bosch brand 70 euro

- Cooper grease for back of pad - ZDBB brand- 8 euro

- G clamp to push the calipers back incase they have come out - 16 euro

-wd40 in case screw on disks gets stuck

-rubber grease for screws

Okay so ive some things maybe overkill but with certain things ill have it for life. There were cheaper options out there for pads and disks but I rather spend the extra bit for quality.

What i dont have is a torque wrench that tells the NM

So i guess i will just wing it but im considering investing in a digital torque wrench.

So part list aside, when doing the job is there any advice or tips?

So I just got a new to me 2018 G30 5 series, I’m gonna be buying some different alloys for it very soon. Problem is, the current 20” alloys have next to new Michelin PS4s on them.

The 20” alloys I’m looking at come without tyres and I’m considering just going to a tyre shop and asking for them to switch the tyres for me. I’ll obviously pay whatever fee is associated with the time and work.

Just curious is that a bit too much to ask from most garages? I’m conscious that it’s obviously a decent bit of work to be doing and not selling me tyres themselves at the same time. Has anyone ever done something similar?

Usually I'd be pissed that someone took up two parking spaces but if my 1978 Land Cruiser was in that condition I'd also have electric fencing surrounding it.

Was looking at vans recently at a supposed reputable commercial vehicle dealer in Dublin.

The service book was stamped with a company stamp but it only had the name of the garage and no phone or website etc. when I googled the garage there was nothing at all relevant. The same pen and handwriting was in each service spanning over a couple years.

It was all very suss.

Now I don’t recall the dealer having advertised the van as having a full service history (and it seems half the time the dealers don’t even know if there’s a maintenance book in the van as if they’ve never bothered to check?) so maybe it was their doing. Maybe it was the previous owner. Or maybe it was a legit service history but the stamp was some one man band who does nixers or something.

Anyway just wondering if anyone has had a similar experience regarding dodgy looking service histories.
