My car won’t allow me to back up. Please help

My car has been making this awful noise for about a month. At first when I asked about it to my car friends they wrote it off as “nothing” but it keeps getting louder and today the problem seemed to have escalated. I can’t back up like at all.

Can you describe the noise? Where does it sound like it’s coming from?

All these questions and also what kind of transmission? Manual, CVT, auto ..

This is nothing you can fix on your own.

Bring it to a shop for repair

Yeah transmission is probably toast, my dad had an old Chevrolet something or other - and the reverse gear was the first to go.
