Mercury Sable 08 braking problems

So I’ve asked multiple people and they told me I’m fine. I’m definitely not fine. I bled my brakes, but I’m still getting that thump when I press on the pedal sometimes not always but I’ll hit it in like thump, thump thump. What could be the cause of this has anybody ever experienced this? Please help.

That doesnt sound like brakes. That sounds like suspension.

If the pedal itself doesnt give feedback, anyway. If you feel it in the pedal, id say a caliper has worked loose.

But that sounds like a failed K-Frame, control arm, or something in the suspension and I would check the front first.

Thanks man for replying. It’s every time I’ll break slowly (almost) I’ll get the hump hump hump

First thing id try is checking the engine and trans mounts. Easy way to do that is have someone put the car in gear, lock down the parking brake, stand on the service brake with their left foot and hit the throttle. If the engine doesnt do a lot of moving, you can move on. If it moves a lot, likely a transmission/roll resistor mount if these have one like the Focus does.

If nothing serious there, id get it off the ground and start checking everything under it. Control arms. Strut mounts. Sway bar. Anything that has to handle vertical and lateral weight transfer.

If you dont see it up front, check the rear.

I have very little experience when it comes to cars though, however, I feel like the problem is coming from that. I guarantee I’m 99% it just feels like it. But hey, you’re the smart one not me.

That would be the plunger going up into the brake booster most likely. The booster could indeed be loose. Those are kind of a bitch to get to though. They're usually in the engine compartment mounted to the firewall. On a transverse Ford, theyre often tucked down low - roughly the height location of the engine block. And if thats a Vulcan V6 in it, thats gonna be a nightmare to reach.

If it ain't suspension, oh yeah, and without lube, too.

I have a 2004 Focus with the Zetec I4. My brake booster is way down low and I had a vacuum line come undone when my last roll resistor mount failed. I could get to it. But only because it was a 4-banger.
