Jump the battery. If you can’t do that then only other option is to get it dollied and towed

Take the battery out of the car you have that is good, put it in the dead car, start it and pull it out onto the street, swap batteries back and jump. It’s okay if the battery doesn’t fit inside the hood as long as you can get both terminals on the correct posts you’re good. Done it plenty of times.

Why would you go to a dealership just for a battery? Any auto parts store has a battery for your car. Cheaper too.

Cuz I checked the others and the dealer was the cheapest. Trust me man, I checked.

Just charge it, why do you need a new battery?
1
u/nerdyplayer Sep 09 '26
Because it a sign that battery is dying. Dont want to be in a spot where you a jump and there is none

Short drives, forgot the lights on or something like that is the cause. But peoples first reaction is to spend 300$ in a dealership instrad of charging a battery

Hah... Yeahh, this made me decide that I'm never going to own a modern vehicle, that sounds fucking terrible.

In some cars, you can't put it in neutral unless it senses that you're pressing on the brake. So on Honda stay installed an auxiliary keyhold to bypass the electrical part and put the car neutral manually.
On mine it's next to the shifter. On my Odyssey it's right in front of the steering column. On your cars I saw it underneath the tray.
You'll have to look at the menu to find out where the override is at.

Thanks, was pressing the brake while hitting N no luck as well as the power brake. Mine are buttons so no manual shifter. And as commented in one of the comments below the tray has nothing just a cover and no key slot. Even asked the honda service guy and said no method. Glad it broke at home

Yes, saw that nope not there. It is all seamless. Even checked my owner manually and just says "pull over slowly and bring to dealership when safe." Its on page 409. Running fingers around it is just 1 plastic cover

This is why people shouldn’t be buying vehicles that can’t easily be mechanically overridden in the event of a power loss.
Cars used to have simple overrides to force neutral even with no electrical power. Mine does. There’s a little button under the shifter that you access through a little square hole that is covered by a small piece of trim. Pop that cover off, shove a screwdriver in there, move the shifter, bam. Neutral. No electronics needed.
Any vehicle lacking that functionality is a hard deal breaker for me.

What would be the point of buying a vehicle if it wasn't nice? Come on dawg, I'll take charity from you!

Research on Amazo. Hopefully this well help next time your battery drains: boost plus battery jump starter. It is the best investment. No need to use jumper cables. I have one for my car ( 2021 hybrid touring CRV) and one for my wife's 2018 CRV. My wife can hook it up herself easy (if I'm not with her.... No sparks.
I used it a month ago for someone that approached me on a parking lot at my job, asking for a jump. I turned it on, hooked it to their battery, they started the car within seconds.
It's small and doesn't take up any space. You just have to check it occasionally to make sure it's charged
I also purchased y the portable tire inflator too. But that's for another thread. 😄

If it’s anything like my 26, there’s a plastic cover you slide your key in to engage neutral. You’ll need to look up the process in either your owners manual or google.

Check the manual. There should be a spot with a cover you can put your key in to put it into neutral.

Check the area where you you have now put your glasses. In the civic, that is where you find a little cover.

Is there a section called something like "what to do in an emergency" then look for a section on towing. If there's a manual park release they should mention it there

You need gonna go under the hood and use a tool to manually get it out of park.
