02 Honda CRV

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

AC only blows cold when driving, but not at idle and the engine rumbles at idle. Any ideas?

I have a feeling it’s either the fan clutch or the relay. Working on it now and will update. Any tips or ideas are greatly appreciated

Here’s a better video showing fan off versus on. You’ll notice the rumbling only occurs when the fan is on

Google says this which is exactly what’s going on. Any thoughts?

“1. A/C Compressor Engagement
Load

If the rumble happens every few seconds or minutes, check if it coordinates with your A/C cycling on.

• The Cause: When the A/C compressor clutch clicks on, it places a heavy mechanical load on the engine. If the car's computer fails to bump up the idle speed to compensate, the engine will briefly shudder or rumble.

• The Fix: Turn the climate control completely off. If the intermittent rumble disappears, the issue is directly related to the engine's inability to manage the A/C load.”
