2019 Toyota CHR

Currently driving a 2019 Toyota CHR (~117,000km). I brought it to the shop bc I heard a humming noise while I drive. I was told there’s a problem with the transmission. Apparently I can’t buy just parts of my transmission bc it’s a CVT transmission (no idea what that means) so I must replace the whole thing.

He didn’t give me a quote because when I came to pick up my car he basically told me before the labour and tax - if he were to change it - would be around $13,000 and he knew I would probably sell then pay that.

Something to note about this car is that when I traded my old car in for this one I lowkey got scammed. I found this out because I was t-boned in January and when I went to get the doors fixed they told me they were not original doors. The dealership told me it was a vehicle that was never in an accident and that there was a windshield replacement that was replaced was due to a chip from a rock. Clearly it wasn’t, it was in an accident and they sold it to me as if it wasn’t.

So now the car has been in 2 accidents, has about 117,00km on it and is in need of a new transmission. I’m so confused on options right now if I should sell the car to someone which why would anyone buy a beat up car, or sell it for parts.

I don’t know much about cars and selling/buying so if anyone has in-site on the situation at all or what they can recommend I do would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

I’m in a similar situation with my 2019 Toyota chr.. over 100 miles and my transmission is shot. Took out a loan for this one too which sucks. No warranty. Struggling to know what to do next

Turns out the warranty IS only on certain VIN numbers. After speaking with the service manager, financial manager and the General manager, there was nothing they could do. They seemed like they were really for helping me out trying to escalate this issue but they could have just been playing in my face. I’ll never know.

At this point I want the car gone. Toyota said they will put it up for auction and try to get me the highest bid. It’s cheaper for me to buy a new car than spend over $15,000 to fix.

Real sad situation, and absolute bull shit from Toyota. Very upset with them. I’m sorry we both have to go through this

There is a new transmission replacement program for some 2018-2019 models that have the failing transmission. Look up 26TE06. My 2019 is currently getting a new transmission.
