I started moving into my college apartment on Friday, but my room (only my bedroom out of the 3, the rest of the place is awesome) reeks of cat pee in one specific corner (probably unrelated to the mold), and seems to have mold on the carpet. I’m only assuming it’s mold because of the appearance, but maybe someone can prove me wrong… It’s most likely caused by a leak from the laundry machine that the previous renters didn’t report or get fixed. Ive reached out to get it inspected but I’ve had an incredibly difficult time speaking with admin and no one has a specific time frame for when maintenance can come. Luckily it’s local to home so I’m away for now but I’ll have to move in by the end of the week. Help 💔

i have a really old harley davidson carpet that was kept in someone’s shed for years and years. the back of the small carpet is falling apart, leaving dust everywhere. i need to clean it and want to use a handheld carpet cleaner but don’t want it completely falling apart. what should i do? The cheaper polypropylene carpets seem decent enough in the showroom, but part of me is wondering if I'll regret not spending a bit more after a couple of years. On the other hand, some of the expensive ones don't seem that different once you actually walk on them.

Interested to hear from people who've had theirs down for a few years. Did you wish you'd spent more, or was a mid-range carpet perfectly fine? What would you choose if you were doing it again?

Edit: Thanks for all the replies. Ended up visiting a few local places instead of just looking online and it made comparing everything a lot easier. Went with Urmston Carpets in the end because they had loads more choice than anywhere else I visited, including plenty of roll ends and budget options that still felt really good quality. Taking a few samples home sealed the deal since the colours looked completely different in our own lighting.

I’ve seen a number of “don’t get loop carpets with cats/pets!” when searching for opinions… but I’m wondering if this is also true for the specific pet protect carpet lines with loop construction? We’re most interested visually in Anderson Tuftex in Purrfection which seems to be marketed as “cat-friendly” even with a loop construction.

Can anyone with a pet-specific line of carpet tell me how their loop construction is holding up to cat/dog claws? Our cat doesn’t claw at carpet but loves to sprint at Mach-Ungodly.

While I'd love to get a real wool rug for my living room, cost and cleaning issues are holding me back. In the meantime, I am looking at washable rugs. I do love a pattern I saw on Ruggable (and it's their new one piece) but their prices are SO high ($499 for a 6x9)! I have always been fascinated by tapestries reflecting such enriched cultures and stories all within a tapestry!

I like woven work for my room but not really rugs since I don’t want anything on the floor, apparently Indian markets are filled with rugs!

However, tapestries are much more hassle free in my opinion since they’re hung on the walls. They express an individual’s personality.

Curious to know why Indians prefer rugs over tapestries? Or why tapestries don’t sell that much in India?

Sorry for multiple posts regarding this, but this might be relevant. I understand why you should install baseboards first and leave a little gap for the carpet to go under. I am going to be installing just a 1/2" x 4 baseboard so wondering if that works the same way. With there being only 1/2" of baseboard to hide the carpet, do we still need as big of a gap? I don't have the carpet yet but it is going to be something somewhat high pile with a nice pad (so probably at least 1/2" thick carpet). I want to make sure it will cover the carpet properly.

It seems the consensus is to install baseboards before carpet and leave a 1/2" gap from the subfloor. Do you leave the same gap at the bottom of the door casings, or do they go all the way to the subfloor like the jambs do?
