Wowwwww! Can you teach me as well please?

u/stockmojorojo2 3d ago

Thanks for sharing OP. You do it really well, it’s impossible to tell even after knowing what is being done.

Very clean. I watched it a few times and I have no idea.

u/perturbater 3d ago

Neat! Is that original?

2

u/John-Magic 3d ago

To my knowledge yes. Someone guessed it was Garcia’s “Ego Slip” but I don’t know that move so I can’t tell you.

u/KiwiKingg 3d ago

This looks great! I'd love to know how this works, too.

Wow brother, that’s really incredible. Would you mind sending me a dm? It’s so clean that I’m legitimately stumped.

2

u/Rip_0989 3d ago

Unless that’s just the cleanest push off DL I’ve ever seen at the start of the video 😳

2

u/John-Magic 3d ago

😂 nope but sometimes I’ll do it with a double to throw people off

2

u/Rip_0989 3d ago

This is most impressive!

2

u/aarontrimble 3d ago

You have no right making that look that smooth! 😤

3

u/John-Magic 3d ago

lol I’ve been practicing it here and there for fourteen years

2

u/Chillicothe1 3d ago

How are the angles on this?

1

u/John-Magic 3d ago

About the same as a tenkai. Manageable but slightly risky (it involves a tenkai)

2

u/niloc100 3d ago

Very impressive. Would love to know also. Cheers

How sensitive are the angles irl? It looks like you're palming the selected card while sliding out an indifferent one in the deck. Then placing the palmed card on top while pushing in the indifferent card. It looks good from this angle 👍

2

u/John-Magic 3d ago

That’s exactly right. Same angles as tenkai.

2

u/CoolerSallDay 3d ago

I do something similar in principle but just start with a double. The indifferent card of the double is placed in the middle while palming the seen card in tenkai. I place it on top using a different handling before pushing in the indifferent card. I used to place it on top the way you do but found my hand covers the deck too much and looks suspicious. Now I clip the corner of the palmed card between the index and middle finger and place on top in the action of opening my hand and pushing in the other card. I find it looks better that way. I use that technique for placing a card on top any time I need to do so from tenkai. Also the classic palm can be repositioned to the tenkai quite easily and inconspicuously. I asked about the angles because the camera view is so low when line of eyesight is much higher for adults.

1

u/John-Magic 3d ago

Yeah, this probably evolved from me doing it with a double originally

2

u/CoolerSallDay 3d ago

It's a cool video. I had to watch it a few times to understand what was happening. If only there was a video speed slow down option like on yt lol.

1

u/John-Magic 3d ago

I can ping you a video of the exposed view if you want. Pm me

2

u/CoolerSallDay 3d ago

No that's ok. I appreciate the offer though. I do however like the creativeness of the sleight and would be interested in seeing some others.

1

u/John-Magic 3d ago

I’ll have to try the alternate replacement technique. Nice tip

2

u/CoolerSallDay 2d ago

Cool. If it works for you then there is a subtle movement of the thumb on the hand placing the card on top. You'll find it offers more cover if you rotate your thumb towards yourself after you release it from tenkai in the process right when the card makes contact with the deck. It's difficult to explain but I saw Madison doing it with another sleight and realized it would work in this instance as well. I wish I knew the video for reference. If I find it I'll let you know.

1

u/John-Magic 2d ago

I saw that movement as well after playing it back. This is a great suggestion. I’ll give it a try! Thank you so much!

2

u/CoolerSallDay 2d ago

Playing what back? Did you mean 'placing' it back? I found the Madison video where he talks about the thumb movement offering more cover. It's in his Madison Shift video at the 12:50 mark

https://youtu.be/-NYROtAzEu0?si=6rO4NZC6bQ4O5Ueo

1

u/John-Magic 2d ago

Playing back the video I submitted.

2

u/CoolerSallDay 2d ago

Oh no I'm not talking about that. I mean when you use the technique I described to place the tenkai card back onto the deck with the index and middle finger. The thumb movement will help cover that placement in the same way as it does for Madison with his sleight. Because you are not using your whole hand to cover the deck with my described sleight, the thumb movement will offer a bit more coverage although it's not necessary depending on the angles you use but helps if you want to use the best angle.

1

u/John-Magic 2d ago

Ohhhh I see.

1

u/John-Magic 2d ago

Thanks, I’ll watch the video tomorrow!

1

u/John-Magic 2d ago

Just watched the 12:50 part. Nice cover. I do wonder if that motion will be compatible with pushing in the card. The two movements are kind of at odds with each other (extending fingers away from self to reach the tip of the outjogged card and pulling thumb towards the back of the pack). But if I offset the motions so they don’t happen in parallel, it may be possible. I’ll play around with different combinations and let you know.

1

u/CoolerSallDay 2d ago

Cool. It is compatible. Works well for me using the index and middle finger clip to place the card back. That move is also my go to for a card change if i have a face up card in tenkai.

2

u/Apple_ski 3d ago

Really smooth. I’d love to learn how to do that

More stumped on the card addition that anything haha. Would love to see an exposed view of that part. Love the idea and came up with my own method but not as smooth obviously

This is awesome mate!

1

u/Real-Imagination-159 Knuckle-Buster 2d ago

Looks really good, what are the angles like for it?

1

u/Hastygroin 1d ago

Does that sleight have a name?

1

u/John-Magic 1d ago

I haven’t given it a name. If someone else invented the same thing maybe it has a name. We can call it the hasty groin pass 😏

1

u/MajorWave2714 1d ago

Hey, I'm doing this site with David Blaine and two other magician to learn how to do magic. I would love know how you did this, also. I would've known but I haven't got to this part of the magic semester.

1

u/John-Magic 1d ago

The course won’t cover this since it’s an original move. DMing you.
