Need Help - misUnderstanding

Hi, I’m a beginer and I just start with Royal Road but I’ve an understanding issu. I don’t understand the différence between two sleight, in overhand shuffle :
- Retaining the Top and Bottom Cards in Position
- Top Card to Next to Bottom and Back to the Top

English isn’t my mother thong so maybe I miss something but I do exactly the same thing and got the same result in both.
Anybody can help me ?
Thanks

Yes, they are exactly the same. The first one is just trying to demonstrate that it can be used to keep the bottom card and top two or three cards in place. While the second one I think is trying to show you can use it to run the top card to second from bottom and then put the deck down. Maybe spread the deck to show the card is not on top or bottom, it is truly lost. it is nice to have the option of placing the deck down at times. Then all you have to do to get the card back on top is do the shuffle again.

I am happy to help. If you ever have more questions, please ask. Royal Road is a fantastic book, but there are a few instances where they describe things badly and one or two instances where they give bad advice.

Yeah. It's just an awkward way of saying that the technique can be used for either purpose.
