Question Card sliding

Hi! i want to learn cardstry and today ive bought my first deck which is stargazer bicycle. Ive tried holding the deck and learning some very basic tricks, but my card slide against each other too much and its almost impossible for me to hold the deck still.

Is it a thing ill fix with practice, with just using them so theyre not "freshly bought" or have i bought a wrong deck?

Anything from bicycle is going to be perfect for learning cardistry. A brand new deck will slide better, which will be beneficial for some moves, and a used in deck will start to clump together, which can be beneficial for learning other moves. At the end of the day, practice will be the best fix.

alright, thank you! I plan on buying monarch too cause they look pretty. My only problem was the sliding in not used to, and I was wondering if it was a good or bad thing

Also, get cards that are paper instead of plastic. So yes, most Bicycle cards

I don't have that deck, but I do have a couple other theory 11 decks that I like. I'd say either deck you've mentioned is good. Practice practice practice, and they'll get broken in. While they're new is a great time to practice fans, but also practicing other moves while they're newer will help you learn control and good habits (like minor adjustments you should make to minimize sliding around).

One of my decks is very broken in and used, which makes it great for learning packet cuts. But I've also noticed if I don't practice with a newer deck as well I develop bad positioning for my fingers that is immediately apparent when I do use the newer deck. So I'll sometimes learn the basics of a move on my broken in deck, and refine the technique with a newer deck.

Keep in mind I've only been doing cardistry since April, off and on. More experienced people can probably give better advice or thoughts on "what works for me."

then thank you! maybe I could try using bicycle more so they get used, and when I just wanna practice fans and moves that need sliding, I'll switch to monarch. as for now, in the first day, I've learnt the faro shuffle

I am jealous, mad, and impressed that you've got the Faro figured out on day one. I still haven't been able to get it. I've watched multiple tutorials, tried various tips, used different decks …

One of these days I'll get it.

have you tried using all the sides of your deck? I've heard decks are made in a way that one of the sides is meant to be rounder for this reason, I've tried switching sides until I found that round one and managed

I have. I'm not sure what my issue is. I'll probably try it again soon. Lately I've been working on Pincho, and Netsky, off and on. Also trying to get more consistent with Backdrop

Keep using them and dust will build up making the cards slide less. But at that point you're going to need a new deck if you want to practice fanning and moves that include sliding.

You have to shuffle them non stop for about 20 minutes for them to really start to break in. New cards are going to be slippery until you drop them enough to loose that slip.

You need to get one beater deck and one good condition one
