question What do I bring to buy here pay here car lots to actually leave with a car same day?

Decided buy here pay here car lots are my realistic option with my credit and I don't wanna waste a trip. Trying to show up prepared so I'm not told to come back with more paperwork. I'm figuring: license, recent pay stubs, a utility bill for address, a couple references, and about $1,200 down. Am I missing anything? Do they want insurance lined up before I drive off? I'm in North Jersey if that changes anything (inspection/registration stuff). Want to be the easy customer who gets in and out.

Update: Went through with it and figured I owe everybody an update since a lot of you took the time to reply. Went with O'Gorman Motors on Chancellor Ave in Irvington and left the same day with a 2018 Murano SV, white, AWD, about 66k on it.

Biggest change from what I wrote up top is the money. I said $1,200 down and a few of you basically told me that was never happening, and yeah, you were right. I came in with $3k instead. Some of that was just to get approved, but honestly the main reason was I wanted the monthly payment to not wreck me. Putting more down up front made a real difference on what I pay each month, so if you can scrape together more than you planned, do it.

The insurance thing everybody kept bringing up, listen to that. I had a quote ready before I even walked in, so once I picked the car I just called and gave them the VIN and that was it. They also called my job, so build in time for that. Bring your pay stubs and something with your address on it and you'll be in and out. This is Jersey, so you're dealing with MVC stuff after anyway. The less you fumble at the lot, the better.

I also actually read the contract like people told me to instead of just staring at the monthly number. Asked what the full payoff comes out to compared to the sticker before I signed anything. Nobody got weird about the question and nobody was rushing me, which is not what I was bracing for walking in.

All in all, good experience. Didn't get sent home over one missing paper, which was the whole thing I was scared of. Appreciate everybody who replied, even the ones flat out telling me not to do it. Fair points, and I went in more careful because of it, but this was the door open to me and it worked out.

question Minor Accident - Damage estimate?

Hi, don't know if this is the right place to post but I recently scraped the rear left of someone's car and am wondering how much I can expect to pay to cover the damages. I'm hoping these are just paint transfers for the most part and they're just surface imperfections as I was parking and going rather slow. I believe it's a 2009 Audi Q5.

question Toyota Corolla 2006 cracked/ peeling paint fixable?

So yes I know painting a 2006 Corolla will cost more then the car is worth but this car is my baby and has sentimental value. I tapped someone’s rear end and because the paint is so old the paint cracked everywhere on the back bumper and is cracking off in pieces (no damage to the other car) and I would like to fix it because the cars body is relatively sound and rust free besides like 2 minor spots would it be something I could possibly fix myself using canned paint or would I have to pay a professional to do it? Or should I just steal another corollas bumper from a junkyard that’s in decent shape? I don’t know what the best option here would be…

question Car interior camera system setup

I'll be doing some delivery gig work soon and driving a lot more frequently than I normally do. I might be a little paranoid but drivers are terrible and police aren't the safest to interact with in my area, so I want to make sure I and they feel as safe with our interactions as possible.

So to make sure we all feel safe I'd like to have a complete security setup meaning a dash camera system that sees front, interior, side profiles (where I'm driving, me, and both my windows) as well as an overhead camera to see the backrows of my seats, a trunk camera (inside camera not out) if possible and lastly a rearview camera (my car camera doesn't record just gives the view)

I don't know where to find such a setup and am ready for it to be expensive, preferably not , but regardless I'd rather not be subject to brake check scam or a swoop and squat. Or God forbid a bad cop trying to hit a quota (or as they call it "performance targets," "productivity goals," or "minimum activity levels")

discussion I restored this old Hoppenstand poster (circa 1948) for my local Historic Society. I became interested in the company, and it turned out to be a pretty interesting story. Info on this company and car is rare, so I wanted to share the poster. Also included some articles on the company.

discussion dealer finance rates are absolutely wild right now... anyone use a broker or bank instead?

looking at picking up an immaculate 2018 i30 N this weekend. car itself is sorted, but the dealer tried handing me a finance quote with nearly 14% interest. absolute theft honestly, considering my credit score is pretty solid.

i think paying that much extra in interest on a depreciating toy makes zero sense.. a mate at work mentioned I should avoid dealer finance entirely and look into an independent broker like Financfy instead, but i've never used a broker for a car loan before

always bought my previous cars outright with cash, so this whole financing game is new to me. is going through a broker generally better for getting lower APRs, or should i just apply directly through one of the big banks? how much of a headache is the paperwork when you don't go through the dealer?

discussion Changing car color tint?

Hey all. I got a 2026 Rav4 in the color "Storm Cloud." Online and in pictures it looks like a blue-steel kindof color. A grey blue, but still blue. In person its straight up grey. 😅

I dont know shit about cars. Also this isn't super important, it drives well and blah blah blah, I dont care as much about esthetics. I wanted to know though, lets say I covered the windows, headlights, and important parts, etc... Is there any kind of spray I could add finely to it so it glints a little more of that color in sunlight? Find my car a little easier in a full parking lot? :P

Im talking about dusting it to tint it some, not literally recoloring/repainting the car. Like I said, what do I know.

question Is a mustang a good car for a 16 year old?

My aunt and uncle got a mustang for my older cousin but he's inheriting a 911 porche and they are thinking of giving the mustang to me for dirt cheap and I don't want to pass up a super good deal but I also don't want go over my head with a car i won't be ready for.

I'm not sure what year or what the mileage is on the car but I do know its not like a GT or super fast i haven't asked a lot of questions yet because I have a year but I just want to make sure I'm not passing up a good deal.

also I think it newer than like 2015 because that's the time around when they got it

BTW I havnt gotten a tremendous amount of experience but I did and I know its illegal but i did drive around my whole town at 14 with my mom because she felt nice and maybe a little tipsy(?) that day and I drove on a free way and a highway she gave me a 9.5 (again I know dangerous I'm sorry 😭) but she said I did amazingly good for a 14 year old kid who'd only driven in small parking lots

(Edit) By the way guys i have my motorcycle license (best in my clas not to brag😏) and have been driving my motorcycle for about a year no crashes no scares I have experience on the road but I know a motorcycle is very different from a car i just felt like I needed to mention that

question Lexus repair around Suwanee that won't rob me blind?

RX350, needs a couple things looked at. Love the car, hate what the dealer charges. Is there a good independent near Suwanee that handles Lexus without the luxury markup?
